Man do we have alot of good information on lots of good topics here.

Whether or not you don't like someone elses viewpoint about things it certainly opens your eyes to brain stimulation..

Do you think you have changed some while being at this forum? :bonk:

I don't think I've changed a lot. Maybe in a few small ways. I was pretty firm in my spirituality before I came here, so very little has changed.

These forums have turned me into a dangerously cranky old man.

Just kidding.

In at least one minor way they've changed me: Before I started hanging out here, I would have said that you can't get to know people very well over the internet. But now I'm impressed with just how much you can get to know people over the internet! Also, I find that I like and enjoy even the people I disagree with more these days than perhaps I used to.

I learn a lot here. You can't deal with all of these people and differenct beliefs without learning. I have probably learned more than I am aware of. I was open and tolerant before I came, but this forum has sharpened those skills. It is also a place to sharpen your wit and to put concepts into words. You can see your ideas come to life and learn about ideas you didn't know you had. In that respect it is a place you can grow. I am stronger in my belief that every person has their own religion and they have a right to believe whatever they believe. I am also stronger in my belief that we shouldn't push our beliefs on anyone else. We don't discuss these ideas much in everyday life, because we are taught to not talk about religion and politics, but here we can discuss these things and become more aware of how other people think. I am stronger in my belief that we should stay open and not hold fast to tired beliefs.

I think my writing and critical thinking abilities have improved since I've been at this forum. My beliefs have changed a little, and I have learned a ton of new things about science, different religions and philosophies.

I have! A lot of my more negative viewpoints on other religions (or thoughts that were trying to be negative) have changed for the better, and I feel more confident in my love for all people. I also feel that my personality is validated by many people here, and I hope I've done everything I can to return that positivity!

I have learned one immutable truth - people have more in common than they have differences. The shame of it is, that we concentrate far more on the differences (perhaps feeling that if that other person would just see it my way...), than on the similarities. It's almost as if we were human.

This site has confirmed my belief that the overwhelming majority of people are basically good. It has validated the classes I took in basic and advanced logic, the philosophy courses, and the upbringing my parents gave me (the second greatest gift I have ever received).

Unfortunately, this site has shown me that although I have aged 47 years, in many ways, I can still be incredibly intolerant, childish, and hotheaded. No wait - that's a good thing (that I've learned).

In light of the fact that most of the members on this site are much younger than Pah and myself, it gives me GREAT hope for the future of mankind.

And lastly, I've learned that my father was right all along - "If you believe in something, you must be willing to defend it - no matter the cost".

Thanks for letting me be a part of this,
TVOR

I've definitely changed while I've been on this forum. I'd discarded ideas that no longer held any water, and developed new ideas with the help of others. I've somehow lost my general fear of Christianity by being able to meet MANY Christians who, although I may not always agree with them, simply do not fit the negative stereotype of Christians my mind had formed through some bad past experiences. Christians can be nice people, and logical ones too! What a revelation for me! (I'm not kidding). Rofl, I've stopped feeling adversion to the label "atheist" and somehow managed to come to terms to the fact that a nonthinkinging, nonpurposeful thing that is essentially the totality of all creation is the UNIVERSE, (or at best Tao), not God, and therefore I can't continue to claim that I am a theist. I've learned how to be a generally nicer person when conversing with people who have viewpoints that oppose mine.
