Idolatry and The Killing of God

Tertullian and Martin Luther both thought that idolatry is the killing of God - at least, the attempted killing of God. Killing is used as a metaphor because God has to be killed in order for YHWH worship to be supplanted or supplemented with any kind of idolatrous worship or practices.

Is this concept biblical?
