I have terrifying memories of being made to feed them at a nature reserve when I was a kid. For some strange reason I had a phobia about birds bigger than I am. "Here, give this sandwich to this bird...yes, I know its mouth is big enough to take your hand with it - but don't worry, it's quite safe!" :areyoucra At the zoo..."Go sit down in front of that pelican while I take your photo...yes, I know it's as big as you are, and your entire torso would fit in it's mouth - but don't worry, it's quite safe!" :areyoucra You should see that photo...standing several feet from the pelican, with a rabbit-caught-in-the-headlights look on my face, frozen, but ready to run if it looked like it was gonna go for me. The flashbacks I have whenever I see that photo are horrendous lol.
