If Obamacare is so great why......

25% at least of our income that year..for medical.NO THANK YOU!..Obama's plan is CHEAPER.
Thank you. Someone has sense. The ACA will make the private insurance corporations FINALLY fight for their rates. (no more monopoly). Be sure to sign up October 1st for the ACA and pick your best plan. It's a simple system and I'm glad the insurance companies are finally being held accountable.
FYI, I received a rebate check recently from my insurance provider thanks to the ACA, I'm sure many have. Don't believe the corrupt big companies, they don't care about you or their employees, they only care about profit and greed.

(don't worry, the lies of 3 hour lines to see a doctor is propaganda pushed by the liars)

RR, Rev, ISLm....would you suggest that she get a job or 2 and her husband get another job to keep up with their expenses? I love this.

It's certainly a good option. If you're dissatisfied with your income, make more money.

Exactly....During open enrolment I saw my deductible go down $10. My daughter is 21 and covered under my health insurance.

If I was Dallas, I would stick the 16K in a cookie jar and roll the dice.

Not with kids involved. If it's just you you're rolling the dice with, that's one thing. But if something happens to your kid, and you can't pay for the treatments because you don't have insurance, no.

And its not 16K.Its 9,600 k just for premiums.Actual medical care (physicals ,visits for illness) is on top of that.

Dont even mention if WHOA you think you might have appendisitis..Its a joke./My husband had a kidney stone one year???Our share (on top of insurance?) $3,000.(for some morphine and an x-ray)...son twisted his knee? Another 2,500 not including our share of subsequent surgery.(for him to be able to WALK )..For me a hysterectomy ?Our "share"? 6,800.(on top of our premiums) ..

Its outrageous.

POh by the way ..I did NOT get the hysterectomy .Too expensive.Even though I have insurance.I guess I could "drop" my insurance and get charged 35,000 for a hysterectomy and the bill says "amount due" //I can't afford to get a "routine' hysterectomy WITH or WITHOUT insurance.UM yeah when they charge $25 FOR AN i"ice pack" which is a glad sandwich bag wrapped in a wash cloth???Yeah kinda "inflated" .When black and white "asprin" is $45 a pill????I cant AFFORD medical care.

Well, it seems we have learned a few things;

  1. If you live below the poverty line, it is your fault.
  2. Health care is the equivalent to A TV or car.
  3. Employers are at the mercy of their workers.
  4. Although every other First World country can do it, universal health care is "too expensive" for America.
  5. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, everyone can succeed if they work hard enough.

Welcome to America!

Then how do I pay for a cat scan for my son that cost 15,000? With no insurance?
You'd think the electricity costs and minimal staff times would be more like 1k. But these days the insurance monopoly exists and they hate the fact that the ACA will make them finally compete. Now that's capitalism.

You can always get second job or die young. If you haven't tried dying instead of seeking healthcare, you haven't tried hard enough.

Some practical things to consider:
- People I know have gotten expensive care they couldn't pay for, & they negotiated a price reduction & payment plan. This is tricky though, since the regulatory environment apparently demands that the debtor go into default first.
- Medical tourism is cheap & safe (I've read).

I negotiate expenses beforehand. I get 16 slice CT scans for 3,500 and the last MRI was 7K. I tell them I do not want them to read it, my oncoligist will do this for me.

Next time you get a doctor bill, ask them why they forgot to kiss you. I like a little kiss before I get screwed.

Its kind of hard to "negotiate" before hand if its an accident.Or acute onset 'suspected' as (fill in the blank)/.Not to mention in that case refusing medical test(diagnostic) can be "called" AMA.Or(against medical advice) in which your insurance has the right to cover none of the bill.IOW if they decide to run a 15,000 scan on you refusing to let them? The entire visit is not covered by your insurance.

That has happened to me before with one of my children. An infant.I felt the test was intrusive under the circumtances. And the fact he had greatly improved since arrival. They threatened that if I didn't allow the test they would report AMA and I would have no insurance coverage for the visit.I told the pediatrician to go stick a cathader up her hole and suck on it...I won.:D
