If Obamacare is so great why......

Why do you feel entitled to other folks money just because they have more than you?

Why do people think they should never have a set back or everyone should be middle class? What are savings for after all? Medical bills can never touch your retirement or take your home away.

People can file bankruptcy and start fresh.
I also pay taxes, so that money I feel entitled to is partially the money I worked to earn. Also our nation is far too rich for people to have to worry about what can be a bankrupting emergency. America is the only industrialized/post-industrialized nation it happens in. A set back is one thing, but the cost of a medical emergency can easily skyrocket past what that person probably makes in a year.
And of course if you do file bankruptcy it takes many, many years for that to go away, and you can expect not only a hard time getting a loan, but even housing and employment can become a major problem if a bankruptcy is on your report.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If you want more money, do more work. People who do nothing but sit around and wait for checks made up of other people's hard-earned money don't deserve to be middle class.

I wish hard work was all it took. I'd be so well-off if that was all it took. But one of the first things I learned when I started working was kissing *** will usually get you further than working hard. And because I won't kiss ***, I learned that if I hope to have a chance I can't just work hard but I have to get on the good side of those who matter. And even then there are roadblocks and you can't please everyone.

This is the first time I've heard that Obamacare will be sending checks full of other people's money for people sitting around and doing nothing. Sounds like another right-wing false equivalency.

How about if you just want a livable wage for a job where you already do a lot of work?

People who do nothing but sit around and wait for checks made up of other people's hard-earned money don't deserve to be middle class.

Um...what? Who's talking about people who just sit around and wait for checks? The fact that your mind automatically assumes such people explains your inaccurate view on the topic, though.

Its not "illegal" for me to say that is an IGNORANT statement that you made..IGNORANT.What are you saying? Is not "more money" .

Would you say that to anyone? Its reaches a point where it can't be "blamed" on how hard a person works that they struggle to be able to get basics.

How do you think 3rd world conditions happen?UM the children aren't working hard enough for a days ration of rice and water???

Its a ****** cop out to say "work harder" especially if there aren't enough JOBS!

How low do you think the wage should go?And should we start putting the kids to work?

None of this adds up. Tell that to the Walmart worker or the McDonald's worker who works hard and still has to rely on public assistance to make the ends meet. And for the small amount of people collecting public assistance... These people are living at or below the poverty level and get...maybe $200 to $400 a month for assistance. And out of that 2 to $400 per month they get all 100% goes right back into the economy. Some of the states (many of them red states) notorious for crying foul and complaining about government over spending are the ones getting back more in federal dollars than what they pay in federal dollars.

Who receives government benefits, in six charts
3) Three-quarters of entitlement benefits written into law in the United States go toward the elderly or disabled. That’s according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. And a big chunk of the rest goes to working households. Only about 9 percent of all entitlement benefits go toward non-elderly, non-disabled households without jobs (and much of that involves health care and unemployment insurance):

By “entitlements,” CBPP is including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, children’s health insurance, food stamps, school lunch programs, welfare, unemployment insurance, the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit. It does not include a few discretionary programs (like rental assistance or low-income energy subsidies) which are aimed more directly at the poor. Those programs, however, are a lot smaller in comparison.

Yep.....

One thing my work ethic has produced is a list of managers, supervisors, and teachers that will write recommendations for me or put in a good word for me. But that hasn't done much for paying the bills right now. "Hard work is a lie" has become one of my mantras, because on it's own it tends to not get you very far.

This is so true, and why the conservative economic theory of merit -- the rich are rich because they earned it, and the poor are poor because they are lazy-- just doesn't hold water.

When confronted with that, they usually just change their tune to "well, you have to work smart too".

If hard was the key to success, then why are there so many farmers and agriculture workers who are not ultra-rich? (It wouldn't be the ones with leaf blowers, it would be the ones out in the fields who run and own everything) Why are construction workers not very well off? Why don't teachers have the money to live that lavish lifestyle some like to insist they do? And then those who do double duty and work as both police and fire-fighters should be mega-rich, and there should not be a single military family on welfare if hard work is what it takes.

That is because you have been conditioned that you have to work for someone else.

Secondly, we are still in a recession. The longest one ever.

lastly, take construcion for example, in this industry, you start out working the hardest for the least amount of money. Later on as you aquire skills, you work less hard and make more money. People who make the most work the least.

I believe somewhere someone told you that life was fair. One day if you stick to it, you will get that big break and life will be better for you. Most likely, not during a recession.

The Affordable Care Act actually refers to two separate pieces of legislation — the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148) and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-152)

It requires everyone in the country to enroll in a healthcare plan, and in exchange it requires healthcare plans to cover pre-existing conditions.

This came about, because we are in a long stupid recession caused by too little oversight over business, particularly too little oversight over banking. Secondly it happened, because voters started to realize that the middle class was disappearing.

Our advantage is that our economy is no longer closed and the entire world economy is revving up quickly. This means new technologies, new demand and new lower cost of goods and services. New opportunities, new kinds of businesses and all the investment cash you could ever hope for is available.

Our disadvantage is that a lot of jobs have left the country. In the short term US workers are having to re-train and re-tool without any government assistance, even though the job shift was due to government policies implemented in the 70s and 80s. US workers are of a 'Get a job' mindset instead of a mindset where they see the myriad of opportunities available. The new lower-middle class is demoralized.

Today, on a whim, I switched the radio over to AM to see what Rush was ranting about today.
What was Rush's big revelation of the secret Liberal agenda?

The Liberals want to eventually remove insurance companies from basic health care and move to a single payer system!!!

No **** Sherlock.

Not true. Did it ever occur to you that many don't want to own their own business? Many like to work and some of those jobs put them in a position to help others. They just want to be paid accordingly and enjoy healthcare, pay their expenses and be able to save and enjoy their savings. I say this society can help them achieve all these goals and more.
