If You Like Your Insurance Plan You Can Keep It...Not

I got it, forced to change but I dont qualify on the new program.

"....alloww to expand the program to adults who were not eligible for it 8n the past...........it is not likely that you will qualify for the new program that begins in January 2014."

Yea...I don't think you would qualify for the subsidies but do you think, going through the exchange, you would find a comparable or better plan than you have now?

I work for a local government, I don't qualify for any subsidies but through the exchange I found a couple plans that are a little less than my current plan as far as premium....but I haven't decided wheter I'm going to switch...

So you disagree with the facts that were in the Forbes article? According to Beyond the pledges: Where the states stand on Medicaid | The Advisory Board Daily Briefing Indiana is presenting a plan to cover the poor through the Healthy Indiana Plan. So, is this a viable plan vice the extended medicaid plan?
HIP is a terrible plan (it's actually been around for awhile). It is actually good insurance, but if your employer offers insurance, any sort of insurance at all, then you do not qualify which disqualifies a very significant portion of the working poor who are offered insurance that will only cover the occasional doctors visit from their employer. This is not good because most people will need more than just a family doctor for some antibiotics at some point in their life.
And yes, I'm calling the Forbes article out because it is not accurate.

It's a weak solution at best and leaves a lot to be desired......

This is weak....

So if my employer insurance is more expensive but I'm making less than $13,000 a year...how will I actually be able to get insurance is I'm then ineligible for HIP coverage...This is weak..!!

This is weak. You're better off going through the ACA Exchanges....

Look, I'm not even going to highlight the rest. This is convoluted and restrictive and seems to place an undue burden on pregnant women.
A friend of mine, her mom had a large cluster of kidney stones that had to come out. Her family is very poor, and HIP would not cover a procedure that was necessary to preserve her life. She ended up getting so sick that eventually a surgeon decided to just do the operation for whatever compensation the state would give him.
And the cost of your employers insurance is irrelevant. If they offer it you are automatically disqualified from HIP.

We will see I need to take a look at what is being offered.

Yea...it's a sucky program. I'm not sure how much of it esmith read. We're once again doing their homework for them. On the surface the program highlights are ok. It wasn't until I got to the FAQs that I realized this program needs to be thrown in the garbage.

What's your point?
;)
No because you're Canadian, according to conservative Americans, you have horrible, horrible government-run health insurance. You may not realize it, but you do. Trust us.

I have horrible health insurance? I did not know that. Hmmm My double Hernia operation at a private clinic did not cost me anything.

My oldest daughter was born premature and spent 10 days in the ICU and it did not cost me anything.

My sister had breast cancer, she was treated immediately, had a mastectomy and a breast replacement and it did not cost her anything

My wife had to have Thyroid surgery and it did not cost me anything.

I see the doctor every 3 months for regular check ups and it does not cost me anything.

But, I am happy that I this was brought to me that I have horrible, horrible health insurance. Thanks for letting me see the light on this.

I never knew, I really never knew :) :);)

Yeah. Indiana is not the place to get hurt in if you do not have good insurance and/or are poor. My brother was in a very bad truck wreck (and uninsured) 10 years ago and after his lenthy hospital stay was over, the bills collectively came to over $250,000 dollars. I don't think we had HIP then (he wouldn't have qualified anyways because his employer offered what they called "insurance"), but even though he shattered his left hip ball and socket (literally both of them) and a part of his hip, dislocated the other hip socket, and broke his left femur, he too struggled to get help and even getting on disabilities was a long struggle for him.

Ouch!

I hope he's doing much better.

I'm fortunate enough to have insurance. I even have Aflac for the just in case but I have friends and family who don't have anything. My brother is one. He has diabetes and struggles to make sure he has enough for insulin. I told him that he definitely needs to check to see what a plan on the exchange might cost him. He doesn't make much money so he might even qualify for subsidies. My sister-in law had a kidney replaced and her medicine cost as much as my car note. Her job stopped covering employees a couple years ago. I told her the same thing that she needs to hop on the exchanges and at least see. You tend to see healthcare differently when you have a lot going on and you're finding it hard to get help. A lot of people with stellar plans don't seem to get it.

Health care in the U.S. is kind of like pigs being fattened before the slaughter ... the ones who haven't been slaughtered yet think they have a pretty good deal. They don't realize they are being screwed until it's too late.

I know he said it in Jest. I was replying the same LOL
As a fellow resident of Canukistan who has experienced similar features of our Universal Health care, the only bone of centention I have is the idea that your medical experiences did not cost you anything. Though it is true you were not presented with a massive bill for medical intervention it is untrue to say that that service is free due to our prepaying for any medical services through life-long taxation.

For example, I had payed into the Universal Health care system for 55 years before my first serious use of that system when I needed instant help for kidney stones. The taxes I have payed, over the decades are far higher than any drain I have yet to place on the system.

That said, when I was in my late 30's due to a job change I had let my provincial medical coverage lapse. It was merely an oversight on my part. Then I needed to get 5 stitches for a cut and because my provincial medical was lapsed, I had to pay well over $500.00 for that minor visit. So... one cannot really say that the Canadian system is "free" health care.

And now because of HIP (which I do not qualify for (and will not qualify for until no earlier than April of next year) because it has not been six months since I was last offered health insurance), I am having another headache in getting medical care because now the healthcare exchange is saying I don't qualify for any credits. It's not even letting me search for plans on the exchange.

No I'm just taking a moment to admire how Fox News is a near-perfect selective-outrageous amplification machine. Please, continue.

So, you are now complaining about Fox informing those that didn't happen to watch the program what was said during this program? Or are you as usual just so anti-Fox that you can not let anything go by without harping on it?

FYI I did not see the program and enjoyed watching the normal Obama supporter David Gregory finally getting a set of gonads; either that or the kool-aid wore off.
