Well, maybe it didn't happen: Controversy erupts after parents of Los Alamitos fifth-graders learn of sleeping arrangements at camp | KTLA

Then on Monday, a spokesperson sent KTLA a statement indicating there had been no biologically male counselors in shared cabins with female students at the camp that they are aware of.

“While counselors may have used the pronouns, they/them, the use of these pronouns is not restricted to biological males. Biological females also use those term,” the statement read. “Pali Institute is an equal opportunity employer and always has been, with diversity and inclusion among its core values. Its commitment to diversity and inclusion applies equally to its students. Pali Institute’s priority is and always has been to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of its students, with strict rules and guidelines that govern staff interaction with students.”

So, it's not fake. Parents were upset about something, but they were making much ado over nothing.

I would also take note of the difference in the way these headlines were written, one from the Daily Mail and the other from KTLA (which was once owned by Gene Autrey).

Parents are furious after biological male, non-binary counselors slept in rooms with little girls | Daily Mail Online

Controversy erupts after parents of Los Alamitos fifth-graders learn of sleeping arrangements at camp | KTLA

"Parents are furious" vs. "Controversy erupts" - slightly different connotations

"biological male...slept in rooms with little girls" vs. "sleeping arrangements at camp"

Same event, yet different ways of telling it.

I'm not up on the wingnut British press. I'll have to remember to ignore anything in that rag in the future unless it's reported by a news outlet.

It sounds like yet another case of the daily wail not fact checking and then sensationalising.

I saw the video from the KTLA link, and when they showed the "group of parents," it was all of six people. The camp is required to follow state law, so the parents were upset that they weren't informed of the policy. They were saying if they knew about it, they would have kept their daughter home.

Ironically, this whole thing happened at a science camp.

Imagine if half of this energy and outrage from some conservative Christians were directed at holding child-molesting priests accountable and reforming church practices instead of being focused on highly exaggerated and often misreported stories about trans and non-binary people.

It doesn't seem that "protecting the children" is the primary concern for many of the abovementioned vocal anti-trans fundamentalists, after all.
