Pops,

If your deity asked you to kill your child, would you do it?

I'm curious to know.

There used nothing wise about beating your children every day or psychologically abusing them with your rapier tongue.

My mother was a holy roller and went for the jugular every time.

I have no use for the Church or what it teaches.
judging God by the standard you knew when younger?
and you have learned better?

The question has to do with a present happening. If now, if what you perceive as your god, were to ask you to kill your child, would you do it? That supposes a present happening.
You simply asked what if they were to grow up and be a mass murderer. Now, if that information was to be used during the making of the decision of killing them as a child then is it something revealed by the supposed god? And if the god knew that much then why was the child born in the first place?
And why wouldn't the god take care of that themselves? Do we know this information? How do we know this information? What does this information have to say about said god in the first place?
Simply, your question either relies upon clairvoyant knowledge, the source of which is in question, or cannot be known until may years later. So, again, how can one answer it with a "yes or no" as you wanted me to answer?

If God gave you reason and explanation on how and why then what would be the point of asking you.?

If you're God and you know everything including people's thoughts does it matter? I'm pretty sure the Bible says somewhere that if you have a bad thought you've already committed the sin.
I don't believe God knows what goes on in your head.
He would be waiting for the hour when you stand from your dust....

Angels stopped the father not the father stopping himself. False comparison since you remove the 3rd party completely.

It shows a God that is capable of telling a father to murder his child, who has done no wrong, to prove his faith. It shows that this God is not all knowing as a test would not be required at all
I was speaking from the boy's point of view....
he wouldn't know

1. I believe it does know.

2. I don't know what you mean about standing from my dust.

Then why did you ask the question?

And I don't think there would be a point in asking anyway.A benevolent being wouldn't ask such a thing. So any being that would ask such a thing is not a deity (for a deity could off a child themselves if they wanted) or not a deity worth worshiping (for if they had the power to end the child and asked the parent to then they are a cruel sadist).

Since my beliefs are complex, I assume my deities don't communicate in such a way and thus, if I ever heard anything, I'd at least first assume it's my brain malfunctioning. The Sun, the Moon, the Cosmos, trees and other aspects of nature don't tend to be big on words.

But in short, no, I wouldn't regardless of reasons or the way it's communicated. It's immoral and for all I know, I would take the view that it's a test of my morality, but some people could view it as a test for loyalty. I find this view quite silly, since you can be fiercely loyal to a tyrant and that obviously doesn't make you a good person. If you're willing to kill simply because you heard a voice claiming to be God to do so, you have problems. I personally don't think it sounds very sane or moral.

Other than the Book of JOB, what other religion asks you to kill your child?

There was a judge that promised to sacrifice the first thing he saw at his door (home) if God gave him the victory over Ammon. The first thing he saw was his daughter so he sacrificed her. God accepted this offering without issue. Although not a commandment in direct support it does show that this God figure had no issues with killing one's children

Well of course that god doesn't. He killed his "children" over and over and over, and continues to do so, for trifles and then, after killing them, punishes them with Hell. He's a real loving and caring fella that one is.

Don't forget He also made His only son a human sacrifice

All our thoughts come from the same source that was created by our Creator. Of course you would be obeying your thoughts if your thoughts told you to kill your child. You wouldn't have any other choice. God is the author of all the killings.

Deuteronomy 32
39: "`See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

Psalm 33
8: Let all the earth fear the LORD, let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
9: For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood forth.
10: The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nought; he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11: The counsel of the LORD stands for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
13: The LORD looks down from heaven, he sees all the sons of men;
14: from where he sits enthroned he looks forth on all the inhabitants of the earth,
15: he who fashions the hearts of them all, and observes all their deeds.
16: A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
17: The war horse is a vain hope for victory, and by its great might it cannot save.

Well, according to the Bible, my thoughts are God's thoughts, so I'm just speaking his words.

Maybe I should write another more accurate book.
