Yes, only once that I can remember vividly though. My friends and I were doing a project/report advocating some type of response by the government for the starving children of the 3rd world country and such, yet we were unexperienced in that area of being hungry and starved. So to get a feel for what it was truely like, we went for 24 hours without food with water being our only main source of nourishment (and even this was a luxury since most in 3rd world countries do not have access to clean and ample supply of water). We went to school, did our regular daily activities without any food. That was a true life-changing experience for me. At the end of the 24 hour period, I think something changed in us all. We realized how good we had it and since then, I have never once wasted food for any reason and up to date, I try my best not to.

That is so cute, as Jensa says; It brings back to mind my poor father, not long before he died. He lived in a flat on his own (but he had a housekeeper, and I called on him each day - at least once).

On day I let myself in (He was extremely deaf), and there he was, in his armchair, tray on his lap with his lunch, knife and fork in his hands, fast asleep!

I shook him very gently, and he awoke immediately, and promptly continued to chew the food in his mouth (which had been there all the time):D

I miss him so much, he was such a character...:(

Sorry to hear it Michel, he sounds like a cool dude. I'm sure he's in a better place.

When I was at high school we had this '40 Hour-a-thon', where we played sports and stayed awake for 40 hours, raising money for...I don't remember what now. At the end of the 40-odd hours (after the presentations at the end, it seemed so much longer than that), mum picked me up and we went home. I barely made it out of the car and into my own bed, where I promptly fell asleep (I'm sure if I'd even contemplated eating at that point, I'd have fallen asleep in it much like that kitty). I awoke after what seemed like only a few hours to go to the loo, and was rather startled to realise it was in fact the next night, and I'd been asleep for 24+ hours.

My little brother was a good one for falling asleep in his food when he was a toddler...he did it a lot. He disappeared on us once, and we had no idea where he was, until the noisy fan in the toilet alerted us to there being someone in there. There was my little bro, perched on his special kiddy toilet seat up on the big loo, head on his knees, fast asleep. :biglaugh: I don't think we got any photos; they'd be classic to pull out for his 18th or 21st birthday if we did.

A friend and I went out to see an a capella group of which we were particularly fond one night, and even though we were both over the age of 18, she still lived with her parents and I with my grandparents, so we pulled the old,'I'm staying at her house,' line, and after the show went to a place called The Pancake Parlour (which against all odds, serves pancakes) that was open all night an offered bottomless cups of coffee. Anyway, they have a table with a quite large chess set, so we sat there all night playing chess in bizarre fashion - one of the games I recall you had to recite a line from a Spandau Ballet song before you could move your piece - and at some point I fell asleep on the chess board. I was only out for about 3 minutes, but I woke up screaming.
Lucky for everyone there was only the two of us and the staff there at the time, and the staff reacted by bringing more coffee.

I used to fall asleep everyday in history class. Usually the bell would wake me up, but one day, it did not. I woke up to find myself with a different class. Very embarrasing.

Love the pics. We have two ferret that will run around like little dervishes and then just plop and fall asleep right where they fall. Did you know ferrets sometimes sleep with their eyes open? Very freaky.

My daughter sleeps with her eyes open sometimes. She is a very active sleeper, only 3 years old. It's really funny when she talks in her sleep.

Ooh, I did that once at Uni! I'd pulled an all-nighter with a friend of mine (we'd sat up watching tv all night...I remember there was a movie on at around 3am called 'Nice Girls Don't Explode' :areyoucra ), and had an English-Lit tutorial at 9.30 that morning. The classes were held in the tutor's office - a rather small, boxy room, each wall lined with bookcases filled to overflowing. The class was fairly small, only about 12 of us, and somewhere during our discussion of Shakespeare (I think it was Hamlet), I leaned my head back against the bookcase behind me and closed my eyes. I woke up as the class was filing out, and the tutor made some comment to me about not thinking the subject matter was that boring. I was horrified, but he was pretty good about it really.

I fell asleep with my eyes open when I was a kid once. Woke up to mum peering at me, looking very concerned. :biglaugh:

Some sleepy stories.

I one stayed up all night long drinking tea (my friend coffee) doing a report for college. We couldn't figure out why there was such a short time span for such a long project. Turns out we did about 5 times the amount of work we needed to do. We got 100% on the papers and did the next one in 1/2 the time everyone else did because we had already practiced doing the whole thing.

My friend used to drink Jack Daniels and chase it with Bud. After an hour he would amost always end up sleeping on the table at the bar and we would send him home. Looked an awful lot like that cat really.

Longest staying awake for me ever....I drove from NB to Montreal (15 hrs, but we made it 11) for a concert. Got there in early morning, concert started in the afternoon (large multi band type thing). Saw the artist we drove there for, got backstage and to hang out with her (another story), got out of the concert, and found a hotel before driving home...total time awake 45 hrs.

Gotta know, what show, and when? Bonneroo was last weekend. Didn't get to go this year, but know people who did. I have a couple of friends who are still hard core Dead Heads. Going from show to show, peddling their wares.
