I'm starting my fast NOW!

Or rather, right after I finish a bowl of popcorn... Wish me luck!

I'll be finishing the fast on the 21st (The Solstice), with a feast. My only problem is making it... It'll be hard to resist the food I'm making!

Right now? Popcorn. During my fast? Nothing. I will drink juices, water, and a few ginger ales though. For my feast? I don't know yet. I'm Gonna let the fantasies of my fast answer that!

Lots and lots of water. And don't go anywhere where you might smell food. YOur willpower tends to die fast around food. However, after about a day and a half to two days, the hunger recedes a bit, your body assuming that food is scarce, or unattainable.

Thanks!

Day 1 -

1835 Hours or 6:35 PM:

Ohhh.... So hungry... It's only been around 21 hours without food so far, but I'm starving! I don't know how peopel who manage months do it! I was tempted to give in, but I haven't, so far. My mom bought oatmeal cookies. I almost cracked! I love oatmeal cookies! That's one of the foods on my feast list now. Also, french fries, preferably homemade. I'm glaring, with no small contempt, at my dog, while she scarfs down a treat... :( This burning hunger should be gone in another twelve hours or so, only to be replaced with a dull ache. At least this is good for me... I made some kool-aid as well! Goody! :p I need to drink more water. It'll help the hunger in the long run, but it sharpens it when you actually drink it. Keeping busy controls the hunger as well. Do you have any suggestions for my feast? So far, I have:

Oatmeal Cookies
Homemade Fries
Kool-aid

Good feast, eh?

Day 2

2139 or 9:39 PM:

My hunger is in a brief respite, so I decided to post. Approximately forty minutes ago, my first day of fasting passed. I've kept busy with reading, posting, and doing science for homeschooling... Starting some basic physics and I'm loving it! I think I'm going to add potatoes... Baked Potatoes, lathered in vegan butter... *Drools* Damn, I've gotta stop doing that! But I'm also going to add corn... Beautiful, yellow, succulent corn... *Drools again* Damnit! Back comes the hunger... I can't wait for the feast! Still, after tomorrow, I just have to wait until supper... I'm also getting sick of kool-aid...

Sorry Watcher, I can't add oreos or milk... I'm a vegan! ;)

~~~Updated Feast Menu~~~
Oatmeal Cookies
Homemade Fries
Kool-aid
Corn
Potatoes, lathered in vegan butter...
Alright, I'm off, before I short circuit the keyboard with drool... :p
I once tried to fast for 2 weeks. I wanted to fast for 2 months but I barely lasted the 2 weeks. What helped me was tea. Every day, two times a day, was ceremonial tea. And lots of meditation. interestingly enough, I wasn't sick at the end of it. Nor was I extremely hungry. It really was an enlightening experience.
Ooh... That's awesome, Vigil! :jam: I think that I'm going to increase the time I fast, every time I fast. Come Oimealg (February 1st), I'll fast for a week beforehand. Come Ostara, maybe 1.5 to 2 weeks...
I would love to fast like the ancient taoist immortals did. In legend, they would fast for 2 years. And by so doing, live an extra 20. I wonder if taoist meditation could do that if taken to that extreme.
Some interesting stuff from Wikipedia:
Recent studies on mice show that fasting on every other day while eating double the amount on non-fasting days led to better insulin control, neuronal resistance to injury, and health indicators similar to mice on calorie restricted diets. This may mean that alternate-day fasting is an alternative to caloric restriction for life extension.
Longest time on a water only fast? 411 days!!!
Recently a historical and amazing incidence took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. A gentleman called Shri Hira Ratan Manek(H.R.M.) aged 64 , a mechanicalengineer residing at Calicut, originally belonging to Kutch., Gujarat, has just accomplished a remarkable record- a world record, by doing continuous fasting for 411 days, as per jain tradition.(i.e. taking only boiled water during day time and just no other food or liquids). He had done similar jain fasting for 211 days in 1995-96. This time, he started fasting on 1.1.2000. The unique thing, was that this time he was under continuous day to day medical checking and elaborate medical testing- with a critical evaluation by a team of expert doctors, representing various fraternities of medical science including family physicians, physicians, cardiologist, neurologist, endocrinologist, surgeon, pathologists, genetician, radiologists e.t.c. Also from time to time several teams of physicists, chemists, biochemists, physiologists and several doctors from all different specialities from India as well as abroad have spent time to meet him, examine him. All of them have been impressed with the genuinity of fasting but every body is wondering how this has become possible.
