Immigrants and "the Five Whys?"

From the link below:

5 Whys is an iterative interrogative technique used to explore the cause-and-effect relationships underlying a particular problem.[1] The primary goal of the technique is to determine the root cause of a defect or problem by repeating the question "Why?" Each answer forms the basis of the next question. The "5" in the name derives from an anecdotal observation on the number of iterations needed to resolve the problem.

and an example:

  • The vehicle will not start. (the problem)
  1. Why? - The battery is dead. (First why)
  2. Why? - The alternator is not functioning. (Second why)
  3. Why? - The alternator belt has broken. (Third why)
  4. Why? - The alternator belt was well beyond its useful service life and not replaced. (Fourth why)
  5. Why? - The vehicle was not maintained according to the recommended service schedule. (Fifth why, a root cause)

If you were to use this technique on the following problem, what answers do you think would emerge?

The world has far, far, far too many immigrants. (the problem)

1 Why?
2 Why?
3 Why?
4 Why?
5 Why?

5 Whys - Wikipedia

I think it depends on whether one believes immigration itself is a problem, or if it's just that there are too many immigrants.

As for the why: Because they can. The world transportation infrastructure has advanced to a point where a person can relocate to any other part of the world rather quickly.

Likewise, national governments which are open to immigration make it possible for it to be done legally.

Many immigrants come from war-torn countries under authoritarian regimes, and they have to get away for their lives.

Many come from economically impoverished areas and seek out opportunities elsewhere.

This rather nicely illustrates why the mind is more than capable of putting not just you in your grave, but also your entire race. Permanently.

1 Why?

Because far too many people are inconsequent about the sustainability of population levels.

2 Why?

Because it is human nature to see more appeal on conflict and unplanned demographic growth than on planning and demographic responsibilityh.

3 Why?

Because many of our base instincts lead us towards "supremacy" and similar mirages.

4 Why?

It led to functional survival strategies many, many generations ago. Circunstances (mainly population levels) changed a lot. Our mindsets changed very little indeed.

5 Why?

Because we have embraced our biological natures and origins, but nearly nothing of the responsibilities that came with our sentience.

Why are we using psychology associated with toddlers to figure out a problem.

My kids ask me why constantly. Doesn't matter how I answer them after the first time.

Why is this technique correlated with immigration?

The basis of immigration is because of man-made borders and for those wanting to cross these borders for a subjective amount of time.

It's not always as complicated as having been suggested so far in this thread.

Maybe, immigrants aren't the problem?

This technique ignores the reality that most "whys" are not linear, but rather a tree or network. But, it does work for my 3 year old. (It usually only takes me 2 or 3 to get to the root. If that fails I say "why not?" She then shakes her head, says "silly papa" and we go play with Thomas Train).

Yeah?

What if the simplest of presented answers was the best answer? Will you accept it or will you keep asking why?

How many whys do you need until it gets answered?

Most folks would suggest one.
