In memory: Hallel-Yaffa Ariel

Hallel-Yaffa Ariel, 13, went to sleep last night in her bed. In her bedroom. In her house.

During the night, a 17 (some sources say 19) year old climbed over a security fence, broke in to her house and stabbed her repeatedly in the neck. She had not oppressed anyone. She had not done anything wrong.

She was 13 and was sleeping.

For how long will we remember her name and her story before we start to rationalize this act of terror? How long will it take for someone to make excuses for this bit of cowardice?

That's utterly horrible. Probably killed for who she was - what a senseless tragedy.

Horrible. RIP to her. The only reason I can think of for why she was attacked is because her family lives on a settlement in the West Bank, which Palestinians are obviously very angry about. Shame that children are the ultimate victims of this.

The BBC article and Wikipedia describe it as a settlement in the West Bank: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiryat_Arba :/
Yes, they do. One wonders how they come to that word. The Chicago Tribune used "suburb" http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...60446_1_beit-hadassah-rabbi-levinger-settlers . Beforehand, it was an abandoned military base in empty hills. Did people "settle" there? I guess. I settled in New Jersey. That must make the suburb I live in a "settlement." I hope no one is angry I settled here. In Hebrew, these communities are called "shetachim". The English word "settlement" translates to "yishuv."

Really? when was the last time someone climbed a fence and broke into an Arab's house and stabbed a 13 year old girl in the neck repeatedly?

Trying to give a "context" or justification for this is precisely what I was railing against in the top post. It took you one hour and 40 minutes to post something which puts a political spin on an act of murder.

It's horrible that children pay the price for these conflicts. She was just a little girl, nothing to do with any of it. It's a tragedy. :(
