One thing these people will not be, if they ever get to DC in the first place, is armed, by the time they arrive. I am sure the mayor and the police will have an exclusion zone round the sensitive areas and people will be searched for weapons before they are allowed entry.

I expect that too.
Then if trouble occurs, it's farther away, & more easily managed.

I remember there were riots, but that’s just America for you. You guys like a good riot, apparently. I think we were so numb by that point it was but a footnote on the nightly news. I don’t remember any being nearly as bad as last week though. That was so bad even the world stood aghast.

It seems to me the risk of further shenanigans increases each day. That is, the closer we get to Trump's last moment in power, the more at risk we are that he'll want to tear down another pillar or two holding up our country. Nothing is for certain, but I think the risks are increasing.

I don't know if anyone else is thinking along the same lines as I am, but I thought I should mention my thoughts to you as something you might want to think about. Make of them what you will.

I realize this is a dubious "bright side", but the more damage these fascist bullyboys try to inflict, the more the rest of the country (and even their scum-bag supporters in politics) will turn against them. The whole world is seeing them for what they are. Just as years ago the whole world saw southern American racists for what they were, back in the 1960s. Maybe we need this kind of crap to come to a head for us to finally wake the hell up and see who we really are, and what we've become, so we can finally make an effort to rise above it.

Everyone I know has photo ID, usually several forms.
I have: CCW/CPL, driver license, passport
If someone has none at all, I guess they can't legally buy booze.
But if they're too poor to afford ID, they shouldn't be drinking anyway.

Well said. I hope law enforcement is prepared and does not escalate, either.

That may work for DC for some period of time. But the rally on the 17th is planned in all 50 state capitols and many of them have lax gun possession laws.

A bad actor who wants to perpetrate violence does not need to go to DC. They may go anywhere that is vulnerable where a symbolic statement of violence can be made.

Also, with many angry armed people in 50 state capitols the possibility of unintended violence is high.

But they do have voter rolls, so if someone pretended
to be someone else, that would be caught. Apparently
it's not a problem...I've not heard of controversies.

People who think in terms of violence will find that in their solutions.
But if one thinks in terms of just solutions, more options appear..
The goal I'd pursue: Prevent violence as peacefully as possible.
Meeting violence with violence would be the last resort.
