India to supply 10 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to Africa, 1 million to UN health workers: MEA | India News - Times of India

As per MEA, India will supply 10 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to Africa, and around 1 million doses to UN health workers.

India has gifted over 55 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccine to neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and so on. Shipments to Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius were awaiting regulatory clearances.

'Pharmacy of the World': India Starts Vaccine Shipments to Neighbours - The Wire Science

India authorised two vaccine candidates this month for emergency use at home, one licensed from Oxford University and AstraZeneca and another developed at home by Bharat Biotech in partnership with the state-run Indian Council of Medical Research. Both are manufactured locally.

Many low and middle-income countries are relying on India, the world’s biggest vaccine maker, for supplies to start COVID-19 immunisation programmes and bring an end to their outbreaks.

“The Pharmacy of the World will deliver to overcome the COVID challenge,” foreign minister S. Jaishankar said on Twitter, adding the first vaccine candidates’ lots had reached Bhutan and the Maldives.

I also read that in the very early stage of the pandemic - Mar-Apr 2020, a company in Pune invented a motor-equipment that generated ion-particles in the air to keep air fresh and claimed to kill the Carona or the ions kept the air virus-free.
Hospitals in Pune bought these in the areas where Covid patients were admitted.
The company was working / willing to work with 2 other countries to share the technology. Most likely Switzerland and a medical facility in the US

Because of a huge population and numerous volunteers, India has gained a lot of data in the initial phases of vaccine testing.

The indigenous vaccine Covaxain is considered a broad spectrum “buffet” vaccine that will work against all Covid-19 mutations as compared to the other “a la carte” vaccines that will need tweaks, as per a top Indian virologist .

Covaxin a ‘buffet’ vaccine that can deal with mutations, others ‘a la carte’ — top virologist

The vaccine has been found to be effective against the U.K mutated superspreader virus, and this could be the reason why the government has initiated the inoculation drive of Covaxin amongst priority sections of the population.

Covaxin is effective against UK variant, shows study: what this means for India

The UK strain was one of the main reasons that Bharat Biotech received restricted emergency approval in India despite Covaxin not having completed enough large-scale human trials to show even interim information on its efficacy (ability to bring down symptomatic Covid-19 cases in those vaccinated).

ICMR Director General Dr Balram Bhargava told The Indian Express that the data generated in the laboratory was “reassuring”.

“If the mortality is 10 per 1,000 for the regular one then it is 13 for this variant of coronavirus. Hence, it is great that we were able to isolate and culture the UK variant within a week’s time and test with sera of Covaxin-vaccinated people. It is reassuring that the vaccine can work against the new UK variant,” Dr Bhargava said.

Dr Samiran Panda, one of the researchers and head of ICMR’s Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases division, said, “The serum samples were collected from vaccine recipients and have been able to neutralise the UK variant, which is good news.”

I think its wonderfully humanitarian. but I hope India takes care of its own people as well.
