Infinity War

(I'm going to put this out there right now, there will be spoilers in this thread. Ye have been warned!)

OK, so here is @Woberts' comprehensive analysis of Avengers: Infinity War.

As a standalone film, it would be utter garbage. Watching all these characters that you have no backstory on pop in and out for 2 1/2 hours would be terrible. Luckily, it's not a standalone film. When taken together with all of the other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's actually pretty good. Now, I have a few gripes about the plot, mostly dealing with the scenes in the last 30 minutes or so. Thanos gets his grubby fingers on all the Infinity Stones, then snaps his fingers. Suddenly, half of everyone in the world just disintegrates. With a pretty bad special effect, I might add. I remember Marvel saying that this was going to the be the conclusion, that deaths here would matter. I find that hard to believe when Spiderman is one of the heroes that get poofed away when he has another standalone movie being made. Anyway, that's enough ranting for now. If you feel like I'm baked out of my mind and that this """review""" is bad, please feel free to tell me.

Here's my take the deaths before the snap are real and the Original Avengers are going to have to sacrifice themselves to bring back the ones after the snap. I'm pretty much sure Cap(Evans), Thor(Hemsworth) and Hulk(Ruffalo) are gone either dead or stranded in the soul stone or something. All three have indicated in interviews they want to move on. There are other Thor's in the comic book. Cap has been replaced by Bucky and Falcon both available. The Hulk has been stranded many times off earth. I also believe Iron man(RDJ) is to expensive for the next series so they will kill him off as well. Iron man has been replace by Rhodes in the comics and Pepper but there is a newer one in today's comics.

The Deaths of the original characters makes sense. They can't do this type of work for ever. Many don't want to. They need to bring in more characters. The price of the movies will keep going up because of actor and director costs. In comics they kill off the character for a few years and then bring him back. This works perfect for a 10 year movie rotation. New actors who are much less expensive every 10 years. It also works for the actors they can branch off of the name recognition of the marvel movies and not be type cast.

Marvel films cannot be viewed as stand alones. I actually prefer that because then it has the same mechanism as the comics in that each story builds the next.

It is an investment for the viewer and in the end, the viewer will be rewarded by being more invested into each character and plot line.

How else, would all these Marvel movies have a consistent record of being blockbusters on release. There is more value added with each release.

I enjoyed it but then I've seen every single Marvel movie and enjoyed all of them.

People that haven't seen much of the previous Marvel films. Don't see this until you've caught up!

I thought about this and for Infinity war, I don't believe you need to see all the 18 previous Marvel films for example no one should sit through the Hulk. I believe I have it down to 4 films. Iron Man, Tony Stark is the main hero in Infinity war, Guardians of the Galaxy the relationship between the guardians and Thanos, Civil War, The Avengers relationship fracture, Thor Ragnarok, Thor's current status and relationship with his brother plus the magic or Dr Strange in relation.

What do you think is that about right or should any others be added.

I agree mostly with what you mentioned.

To me this is like a big TV series with all the glory of movies: big budget, special effects, A+ actors/acting. It's my child revisited but instead of comics, they're basically movies.

What more could any super her/comic lover ask for?!?! Too bad, the DC side can't get their production together.

I generally enjoy the MCU movies (with a few exceptions) and I was very disappointed in Infinity War. At first I was just underwhelmed after leaving the theater. The more I think about it, though, the more I dislike it. I just saw it today after seeing Black Panther (finally) yesterday. I felt entirely different about Black Panther, since it blew me away.

Same. Black Panther was amazing. It's probably the best superhero movie ever made. I couldn't stop smiling and I almost cried (I teared up a few times). Wonder Woman last year came close in greatness, as well. I think they've definitely peaked in quality. Infinity War was largely meh. Very overhyped.

Hm. I agree with you to a point. I was also very underwhelmed with Wonder Woman. I was also expecting that to be good since the hype was so strong, but I ended up not liking it. It was a similar feeling to my reaction to Infinity War. It might still be the best DC movie, but movies haven't been DC's strong point lately.

Also, there were some characters whose stories I have completely forgotten. I forgot about Vision and Scarlet Witch (I even forgot her name, lol) because I can't remember Age of Ultron and didn't understand what the hell was going on in that movie in the first place. I saw it in theaters once and that was it. Same with Civil War. Completely forgettable. There's way too much going on and way too many movies to bother to keep up with (there's been about 30 superhero movies in the past decade, all together). I'm not a comic book nerd so I can't be bothered. I have seen almost all the movies in theaters, though.

It does get tiring. They'll keep doing it as long as it makes them money, though. They're making a killing, so expect more. :(

It was very hyped, which is understandable because it was the first superhero movie completely about a female superhero (let's pretend like Catwoman never existed; most people wish it never did, anyway) and directed by a woman. But I do think it was great for what it is. It did it's job in being inspiring.

To each their own. (although yeah, Catwoman never happened)

Of course. Disney owns Marvel Studios so they'll run it through the ground and out the other side of the planet like they're doing with Star Wars. Even after the actors die, they'll just keep it going with (probably bad) CGI. They'll keep making them as long as the masses keep throwing billions of dollars at it. Infinity War has made close to a billion already. Ugh.

Cacotopia

Let's go full Trottle
It was decided later that it would not be a conclusion to the MCU. The events that transpired post Titan were meant to happen that way as it followed the path of the 1 probability out come where Thanos loses. The infinity stones in Thanos' glove did not shatter, meaning the time stone could still be used to revert time back to before the snapping of his fingers. The next film concerning Spiderman could be released later as the film's plot line likely precedes Infinity War.
