Inside Jokes

So I was thinking about a dumb little inside joke I have with my co-workers about a pantheon of gods that watch over the employees of our hospital. Some of them include such characters as "Payus Maximus" who's realm involves working overtime or picking up extra shifts for that extra money. You know how everyone is superstitious about saying words like "easy" or "slow" on a good work day as to not jinx it? "Douchifer" is the entity who hangs around just waiting for someone to say those words just so he can tank people's good days and send them nose first straight into the dirt. :D

We might say something like "Gotta make a sacrifice to Payus Maximus." In a reference to picking up extra shifts to pay off surprise bills or "Shh! Douchifer will hear you!" when we use those dreaded S, E, or Q words during a good day at work.

What are some of the stories you have behind some of your inside jokes you share with people in your lives? :)

When I was little I used to call my belly Stomachu. Whenever Stomachu rumbled someone had better feed the beast! Stomachu's favorite offerings were grilled cheese sandwiches or chocolate chip cookies or pancakes.

I think I got the idea from Gilligan's Island. Not sure.

Ok, that's just cute!

The hangover elephant.

If you drink too much, the hangover elephant visits you while you sleep. It stamps on your head and takes a dump in your mouth.

You know, I have yet to be visited by the hangover elephant. I count myself very lucky. :D

I used to be able to drink as much as I wanted and still wake up fresh in the morning. That stopped in my mid-twenties and I got quite a few visits from the hangover elephant before I learned my lesson. I've found that limiting myself to three pints keeps the elephant at bay.
Three pints is still significant. How long can you keep a buzz going with that?

Thanks for sharing. That is a good story.

I'm not calling anything to mind right now except a personal inside joke that I am the only one inside. Whenever I see people near each other using cell phones, I imagine that they so caught up in technology that they are texting the people right next to them rather than actually talking to them.

When I was younger and much thirstier, there came a time when the hangover elephant stopped visiting. Now, on the infrequent times when I have even a little too much, it comes back.
