It appears, Adam was not aware that he was a man. He seems to be a perfect man, and a perfect beast, and the ruler of Paradise. When he was aware that he was a man, he tried to be more than a man. Apparently, what is supposed to be the only higher concept than man, is God. If one tries to be more than man, then he aspires to Godhood. Adam was trying to be God in Paradise, and there is an interesting link to Darwinism here. Darwin says that the link before the Homo Sapiens is missing. Perhaps the missing link is the perfect man, or the perfect man/perfect beast, or the man who existed before the evolution of society.
