International poll: we all want the US to vote for Obama

Alceste

According to an international poll, the rest of us don't want to have to put up with another Republican administration. Do you think anyone in America cares what we think? Do you think they should? And if American voters don't care what we want, should the US stop attempting to influence our governments?

Obviously. Those in competition with the US want the US to fail.

If you mean "fail to draw their allies' troops into pointless and bloody American conflicts", or "fail to destroy our pensions and businesses with their idiotic economic policies", you would certainly be right.

More to the point, when those hateful socialist Europeans decide to finally move against us we both know how they'll get here - right over Alaska!

A few of my friends have mentioned the international community as one reason among several other reasons why they will be voting for Obama. No one has said the opinion of the rest of the world is the sole reason they will be voting for Obama, though, and it would surprise me if anyone did.

Do you think they should?

Of course. I think people in a nation as powerful and influential as ours have an obligation to think of the larger picture when considering all the factors for voting for someone.

I wouldn't expect it to be anyone's only consideration (although that would be great), but I know for Canadians, generally, we get embarassed when the actions of our government hurt our reputation in the international community. Maybe not so embarassed that it would overtake domestic considerations in an election, but I would like to think that if our conservatives became even a fraction as unpopular as American republicans in the international community, Canadians would quickly and decisively turn against them. In fact, it seems our psychology can't cope with the basic fact our troops in Afghanistan are on a combat mission. Canadians prefer to think of our military as peacekeeping forces. We picture them building schools rather than haphazardly shooting into populated villages and calling in US bombing raids for backup. The majority of us would not tolerate another war.

I wondered if having the option of just bombing the bejaysus out of whoever disagrees with you (and leaders who are perfectly willing) makes a difference to the average American's desire to participate in international cooperation.

For all their faults, we should remember that the United States is also the world's greatest "helper" nation, both officially via the government and unofficially through US-based NGOs. International cooperation is actually in the American blood. I'd say that humanitarian impulse can be (and often is) exploited and diverted in weird ways by ambitious politicians. But that impulse is there, and it seems pretty strong to me.

We know what you want. You want the extra $845 billion Obama has promised. You want America to end global poverty.

Why should America have to solve anyone else's problems?
Solve your own problems with your own money people.

They'll all be clinging to the hairs on Putin's rearing head as it soars through the sky outside Sarah Palin's back garden. :angel2: (<-- Putin over Alaska smiley)

That's the spirit! Folks who say we're in this world together are fools, right? Nothing that happens elsewhere in the world affects you or your kids, right? I bet you were home schooled -- through college.

Do you think anyone in America cares what we think?
Yes, although I think most won't.
Do you think they should?
Yes, this is no longer the small world it used to be. America is still America, but also part of the world. I do think most of their focus should be for their own country though, as that's where they live..
And if American voters don't care what we want, should the US stop attempting to influence our governments?
If they don't care, they won't vote for it. It will automatically end or lessen.
Personally I think every government should try to influence other governments..

Not all of them dear, only the one's you've caused by unloading your toxic mortgages on us, overthrowing the governments of our neighbours, being the world's top polluter and grinding the third world under the boot heel of the IMF and the World Bank.

Wich of the countries in the poll is so poor then? England? belgium?

switserland? :D

They want us to deal with it so they don't have to.

PS I was not home schooled. I have a PhD from CSM. Where did you get your education if I might ask?

Jayhawker... I thought you did not like terrorism? That you were in favor of fighting it? Remember the question - If Israel was attacked, would you wait for UN approval to run to their aid? McCain answered - we would NOT wait for the UN.
BO - we would wait.
