Have you ever personally met someone you became acquainted with on the internet and what was your experience?
Good question Lightkeeper-
I've met about a dozen people that I met on the internet, and so far, they have all been pretty much what I expected. My only caveat is this - I'm a 47 year old male - so there is little risk for me. If I were a female, I would be very cautious about meeting someone that I knew only from the internet. I think meeting someone at a public place (i.e. a restaurant for lunch, meeting them as part of a group, etc.) would be safe enough for most women, but if I were female, I would never put myself at risk when meeting others. Then again, you should already have a good idea of what type person you are meeting.

Well, I met Maize on the internet. You all know how well that's going. :flirt:

I've made quite a few friends online, and have met quite a few of them in person as well (most in one big gathering last year). One in Australia, one in Canada, and the rest in the US. I met them all originally (incl. Maize), on a Bee Gees fan messageboard. I went up to Queensland two years ago, and stayed with one friend for a few days (I was also visiting family up there, and she lived only an hour or so away from them), and had an absolute blast. Last year I went over to the US, to stay with Maize, but we spent a weekend at another friend's house (also from the Bee Gees board), who has an annual "Gibbfest". We had much fun with all things Gibby, there were about 10 of us there. It was great! :jam:

In March 2003, the board had an official get together in Miami, with people coming from all over the US, and some from Canada and the UK to attend. Maize got to go to that one, but I couldn't afford it. *sigh* Maybe next time...

I've had only good experiences when I've met internet friends in person - more than a dozen so far. I used the internet dating services to meet others before I met QTpi on line and I met some from my last board and one previous board. None of them as special as QTpi but special non-the-less.

I have a few times from some people over at another board that I frequented a bunch.

Mostly good times.
