Well, this is kind of a bummer. Message Boards - IMDb are shutting down as of February 20.
As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.
"No longer providing a positive, useful experience..." I guess that means they're tired of the trolls and consider that the message boards are more trouble than they're worth.
Apparently, they're not the only ones doing this. IMDb is shutting down its long-running, popular message boards after 16 years
the company isn’t the first publication to do away with public, loosely moderated comment sections. Various newspapers, magazines and online publications have decided to close comment sections citing similar concerns about fostering a more positive environment for all users.
Targeted harassment, sexism, homophobia and racism have been longstanding issues in most comment sections and IMDb readers have pointed out the company’s community wasn’t much better. Multiple people on Twitter have pointed out that IMDb’s discussion boards have become a hotbed for internet trolls while others have questioned why it took so long for the website to come to this decision.
It wasn't really that bad, though. Maybe less than 5% of the posters were insufferable trolls, but it was at a tolerable level.
Oh well, I guess it means I might end up posting here even more often.
