Internet Posesion

I did a post on Reddit (first post) and didn't see the date and was called "stupid" for creating the post. Now, I can kinda sorta, somewhat understand if that's said in discussion.

Sometimes I wonder if the internet forums cause people joke/insult/judge others "just because." Maybe because it's the internet it gives posters justifications for judging?

Judging doesn't need to be angry behind the screen or anything like that. It just means someone took the time out to think "Hmm. Maybe I should make fun of this person--that's a good idea."

What on earth is this internet-posesion all about?

I don't have the answer here, of course; I can only guess.

I suspect it comes from a combination of things. One being a need to inflate the ego. This is done much in the same manner as a playground bully: by making someone else look bad. Another guess is insulting someone behind a screen is relatively secure. You say the same thing to someone in person, you risk getting punched in the face, or being publicly ostracized. Lastly, its a 'safe' place to vent against people that are 'different' than you, usually meaning they think or feel different than you on the internet.

Its disgusting, but I see it only getting worse.

Well that was blatantly rude. It's why I have never become a member of a forum that is not religion-based, because there are a lot of savages in the secular sphere.

True. True. The internet does provide a kind of safety zone to not confront or see themselves in the mirror when they speak or act.

It must be a twitter term. I'd just consider it a misspelling of possession.

Guess what ssuggarr is.

Ha. I did that on purpose, actually. Not meant to insult but more so that even with a misspelling, people are more focused on that than the intent of the post. If I did the same on Reddit, they'd fire me in the hole.

Depends. I just use that site occasionally for technical things like how to tie-dye. Its too...twitterpated for common dialogue for me. The front page updates too fast, too. Like if you refresh everything is gone.

People calling you "stupid" exhibit a lot about themselves, not much about you:
1) They are devoid of Love
2) They lack empathy
3) They lack compassion
4) etc.etc.

In short: These nice qualities develop slowly over time ... evolution goes slow, better don't hold your breath with such people

Note: My Master puts all this in perspective telling us "You all have been rapists, serial killers in previous lives ... don't judge others too quickly"

Just curious: Did you reply to an ancient post, and that was the reason they called you stupid?

I remember I once read a newspaper that was 1 week old, when I was a student
IF I remember correctly, they called me stupid. Was easy to prove their foolishness

In my experience, people behave differently on the internet than they do in real life, primarily due to the anonymity aspect. Many don't stop to think before they write that there is a real person on the other side of that keyboard that has real feelings. The absence of seeing or hearing reactions plays into this as well.

I'm not talking about me, of course. I don't have feelings.

Since being on the internet(since 1995),I have to admit that I now severely moderate myself before actually hitting 'reply', because many of the threads, I have (wrongly) assumed to be jokes.

I think it was. Reddits format is a bit crowded
