Introduction

My name Is Jeremiah, I was raised Christian, at the age of 13 I embraced it as my own, I was very active in the church, and participated in many church functions. At the age of 17, due to my logic first personality, I was forced to drop the religion, reasoning that the concept of Hell, was such a contradiction to the concept of a loving, and all powerful God, that I could no longer believe the words of the bible to be divine, and therefore I had to discontinue my connection with the church. Doing so brought about alot of hatred and people looked down on me, even in my own family. I continued to research other religions, hoping to find the truth for 8 months or so. Things got so bad at home, I ended up joining the army, reasoning that If there was no better a way to find god then to be able to reduced to life's most basic form(that and the fact that I always wanted to serve my country). The initial state of civilization(infantry) would surely bring about some incite into religion. I am not 19 years old and I am still an Agnostic, or to be more accurate, a simple theist, I believe there is a God, I know not the Name, Gender, Number(poly vs mono) of God, but I definitely believe there is a higher being that brought all of this into existence.

I've delved in a couple new age religions to include gnosticism but to get far in that religion required too much, there are certain things you can't do while in the Army. I tend to stay away from religions that follow any particular script/book/text as being divine which is why I havn't devled into any other abrahamic religions.

Anyway I'm just here for some interesting discussion. In all the spare time I have hear to devote to self education and entertainment, I would hate to come home thinking that I did absolutely nothing to learn about religion and philosophy.

Just one more thing to clarify, if you define agnostic as one who believes knowing is impossible then I am not an agnostic. I don't doubt people in other religions have spoken to God, I infact believe that I have spoken to him, but now its been so long its kind of hard to tell.

Nvm, googled it, and got this: ok, the link didn't work because I need to have posted 15 times on the site, but I'm sure you know what I'm referencing{the only thing that comes up on google if you type aeya +ourd in english and it is on this site} {post 17}

Is that your personal belief system, an already established belief, or a mix of both? I've definitely never heard of aeya before, but then again, I havn't been looking for God for a while either.

Hey!
Way cool to meet you Jeremiah. I have the utmost respect for you and all people who put their lives on the line to try and make the world a better place. In your search for knowledge, just follow what you recognize as truth. There is a lot of good and true in the world that doesn't require ascribing to any particular religion. Whenever you encounter something that strikes you as good, uplifting or inspiring, internalize it. Basically, follow the light and it gets brighter. That's what I try to do.

Welcome to RF!

Don't be so quick to discount Abrahamic faiths, it seems to me you'd find Noachideism a possible Way.
