'Iranian rights activist and journalist Narges Mohammadi was released from jail in October, but faces a return to jail after being handed a new sentence of 80 lashes and 30 months incarceration'

'Mohammadi, 49, a campaigner against the death penalty, was spokeswoman for the Defenders of Human Rights Centre in Iran -- founded by lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi -- when she was arrested in May 2015.
At that time, the mother-of-two was handed a 10-year prison sentence for "forming and managing an illegal group", among other charges, but was released last year after her sentence was reduced.

However, on Tuesday, the reformist newspaper Etemad reported she had been tried and found guilty of "propaganda against the system" of the Islamic republic, as well as "defamation" " and "rebellion against the prison authority".

The paper said she was charged with having "issued a statement against the death penalty", of having accused prison officials of "torture and harassment", and of organising a sit-in protest while in prison.

She was sentenced "to 80 lashes, 30 months in prison and two fines", the paper reported.'

Do you think the Iranian government is guilty in this case of oppressing its own citizen?

Creation exists created.

A human thinks about it.

Who named a hu man a man or a human?

The man human thinker did.

Obvious as he says a human is man inferred first. Man a penis owner to be man. A hu Man woMan a vagina.

Can only be present owning physical bodies for human to be defined a man or a woman by a man.

Actually.

Human man is one man but used two words to claim identity. Man man man his repeated inference status.

No use in naming humans inferred as status.

Human any body type living by presence is born as a baby by sex act. Not named originally. Human is the first title. Type of human second. A boy's name or girl's name third.

When you accept our first human reality then you will stop falsifying human self idolisation and superiority by word users.

Who prove in life to have inferred status by word expressions that most humans don't use nor understand meaning of to infer self superiority by words.

Indeed, it is certainly a human rights violation. Iran is a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

I don't feel sorry for her for being punished for campaigning against death penalty, if that is the case, but I feel sorry for her for being in an Iranian prison. Iranian prisons are known for their abuse and it is ludicrous to pretend it isn't so.

Can't imagine what the Iranian tourist board sees fit to advertise for Iran being such a wonderful country, but I'm sure this might be helpful.

It's government may not be known for its tolerance, but I've heard its people are super nice and hospitable.
I'm sure they are as I would expect of most (from my travels), but I have only met a few Iranians. I don't judge people on what their governments or even their culture often prescribes. I tend to pity those in such countries where they seem to lack the freedoms and tolerance we expect, and I'm not sure they will ever get to such. Perhaps they just don't want to be so. I see so many other countries in a similar situation, although usually for different reasons.

I think this is difficult to judge. In such countries people are often taught that it is arrogant and rude to criticize the ones who are in charge. There is some sense behind that, as political leaders are supposed to be experts in leadership and management. But when the leaders in such a government are so self-righteous that they don't care at all about people's opinions, it can lead to a lot of underlying issues that are ignored...
But if they care too much about pleasing everybody, it can lead to demagoguery which will lead to other social issues coming from the opposite extreme.

Well I, and most here in the UK, have never been in a situation of obvious oppression (or limitations of freedom that would be noticeable), even if for much of the time I would boot out any existing government, so I don't know how I would behave in such situations. I'm not sure I would put my head above the parapet and risk my life to get change so I'll not criticise those in other countries who might not do so too. Iran just happens to be one country that is more dominated by religious beliefs than most, and as you say, there will be that respect given to religious authorities which will be absent in others. I just hate to see oppression in any form - or what I see as oppression, which mostly is, lack of freedoms to live one's life as one chooses.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Im knd of wondering what offensive propaganda she distributed or displayed (or whatever) that warrants the sentence and 80 lashes?

It's kind of sketchy and not clear on that front.

Either way it's hard to picture countries today still metting out punishments more in line with the 1700s instead of today.

Still, its better than amputation, or death under the circumstances.
