Air defense forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have downed an Israeli spy drone over the Iranian airspace.

The Israeli drone was reportedly struck by an Iranian ground-to-air missile as it attempted to approach the airspace over the country’s Natanz nuclear site.

According to an IRGC public relations press release, the downed Israeli spy drone was a radar-evading type of aircraft and attempted to intrude into Nataz nuclear district airspace when it was detected by IRGC’s air defense network and shot-down by the missile.

The press release further slammed the “evil act” of the Zionist regime, adding that the move reflected the adventurist nature of the “fake and war-mongering” regime in its criminal history.

The elite Iranian military force also reiterated that all of Iran’s armed forces stand prepared to defend the honorable nation and homeland and reserve the right to launch any retaliatory measure in-kind.

Top Iranian authorities have repeatedly warned that any attacks by the US or Zionist regime force against the nation will lead to retaliatory measures far beyond the immediate region as well as wiping out of the illegitimate Zionist entity.

Iran shoots down Israeli spy drone near Natanz nuclear facility

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has shot down an Israeli spy drone over the Iranian sky before the unmanned aerial vehicle reached Natanz nuclear facility.

The IRGC’s Aerospace Force has intercepted and shot down an Israeli spy drone, the IRGC announced in a statement on Sunday.

It added that the stealth and radar-evading spy drone intended to reach the nuclear facility in Natanz, but was targeted by a surface-to-air missile before it reached the area.

“This mischievous act once again reveals the adventurist nature of the Zionist regime [of Israel] and added another black page to this fake and warmongering regime’s file which is full of crimes,” the IRGC statement said.

The statement emphasized that along with other Armed Forces, the IRGC is fully and strongly prepared to defend the Islamic Republic’s territory and airspace against any aggression and reserves the right to respond in kind to such moves.

Iran’s nuclear facilities have always been a regular target for espionage activities by US and Israeli secret services, which have at times used drones for this purpose. However, all efforts made to this end have been successfully thwarted by the Iranian military forces.

On December 4, 2011, the Iranian military’s electronic warfare unit announced that it had successfully downed the American RQ-170 reconnaissance and spy drone in the eastern part of Iran with minimal damage.

The RQ-170, an unmanned stealth aircraft designed and developed by the Lockheed Martin Company, had crossed into Iran’s airspace over the border with Afghanistan.

The drone was one of America's most advanced spy aircraft and its loss was considered a major embarrassment for Washington.

Israeli Spy Drone Downed Near Nuclear Site in Central Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has shot down an Israeli spy drone.

IRGC’s public relations office on Sunday announced that the corps’ aerospace forces tracked and shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The IRGC said the downed aircraft was a radar-evading stealth drone which was trying to enter the airspace over Natanz nuclear zone.

The intruding drone was intercepted by a surface-to-air missile, it said.

The IRCG statement underlined that the corps, along with other armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is prepared to comprehensively and decisively defend (the country) and retains the right for any reaction and retaliatory measure.

Less than a week ago, a senior Iranian military commander said Iran's air defense units keep close watch on the “tiniest moves” in the country's airspace, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard said on Monday that the country’s entire airspace is closely monitored by the integrated network of air defense.

“Not a tiniest move will go unseen by the Air Defense Base’s sharp eyes,” the commander explained.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. As part of these accomplishments, Iran’s aerial defense has been able to build a big part of its equipment and arsenal by its own experts.

Earlier on April 15, Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili praised the outstanding features of Iran’s new home-made radar system, dubbed “Raasad-32”, describing it as a great achievement in the area of detection and identification of different types of aircraft.

As regards the important features of the domestically-made radar system, Esmaili explained that the Raasad-32 can detect the flying targets’ direction, altitude and velocity.

The system is capable of transmitting the collected data to the Control Center from a range of more than 15 kilometers.

According to the statement, the Israeli aircraft was a radar-evading, stealth drone with the mission to spy on Iran's enrichment activities by flying over Natanz nuclear enrichment plant.

The IRGC also pointed out in its statement that the Israeli hostile aircraft has been targeted by a surface-to-air missile, according to Fars news agency.

"This mischievous attempt once again made the adventurous nature of the Zionist regime more evident and added another black page to the dark record of this fake and warmongering regime, which is full of crimes and wickedness," the statement added.

The IRGC further warned that it "preserves the right of reaction and retaliation".

It also noted that the IRGC alongside other Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic is fully and resolutely ready to defend the noble Iranian nation and state.

Yes it is, Mr. Fox News - Times of "Israel".

If you don't believe it, you will see it when it is displayed. I remember people denying the American drone also. But Iran shut their mouths when they showed it.

I don't doubt that there was a drone. I would be doing the same thing as far as surveillance and keeping tabs.

Yup, not surprising. All countries do surveillance on other countries, Especially on the volatile ones.
What is surprising is that you think this is news.

You can't think that an Iranian drone flying mission over a sensitive site in the USA or Israel would be business as usual. Seriously?

I don't know if it's true or not, but I see no reason to doubt that Iranian airspace was violated in a way that the USA would go to war over. Imagine a Venezuelan drone scoping out a military site in Texas.

We wouldn't go to war over that - maybe take out some people in the middle of the night just to send a reply message.

You're right but Iran has declared war on Israel. The leaders openly claim that one day they will wipe Isareal off of the world map.

They are at war, through proxies though. Iran doesn't have the balls to attack Israel, and Israel knows there's no point in attacking Iran. So spy drones are nothing really.

I don't see why there is a thread about this.
Iran has openly said that it wants to eradicate Israel. So Israel is spying on them.

In other words... 2+2=4.

I hope Iran does the same thing over ''Israel'' and the USA.
What a shameless act! And what is more shameless was that Obama wanted their drone back. And more shameless is people defending the crimes of these hegemonic powers.
I think Iran should do something about this to deter these bully ''governments''.

You really have your priorities all messed up... If I go on National TV and say: "Matemkar, I'm following you, and I will kill you. I will make sure the world knows no descendants of Matemkar." Would you not look into who I am, and dig as deep as possible to try and avoid it?

Iran is the biggest bully of all governments. He denies the Holocaust. He promotes the destruction of the Jews. He's basically Hitler #2, without the talent, the brains or the power to do as much about his beliefs as Hitler did.
Of course to you, Hamas is a Freedom Fighter. So your gauge of good/evil is not really on par with that of the rest of the world... You support Hitler, and deny the Holocaust, don't you? You seem like someone who would.

I'm shocked that people like you even exist. And I do not mean this as an insult. I'm actually shocked.

Just once stop playing the dumb. Dr. Ahmedinejad explained the issues and his expression:

Zionist invasion on Palestine, their supporting terrorists in Syria and Iran should stop. And flying drones over the lands of others is an act of war. And I hope Iran does what is needed.

Then you believe that the sovereignty of Israel and its borders should be left alone? Do you also believe that Pakistan and Bangladesh, which were borne out of threats of violence, should be dissolved and returned back to re-form a greater India? Or do you just pick-and-choose based on bias?
