Yes, to try and find a way from keep our hind ends from returning to the Periodic Table!orichalcum said:The afterlife ( if you believe in such a thing ) only exists in our minds as we cannot prove it, but if it is non existant, we have been living a lie, trying to justify a reason for existing.
So if all is really nothing, would there still be a reason for living?
All this is 'nothing'. It is an illusion. It is the reality we created. WE as a whole, we as humans.orichalcum said:The afterlife ( if you believe in such a thing ) only exists in our minds as we cannot prove it, but if it is non existant, we have been living a lie, trying to justify a reason for existing.

Ah, but that's assuming that we think there is an afterlife.orichalcum said:The afterlife ( if you believe in such a thing ) only exists in our minds as we cannot prove it, but if it is non existant, we have been living a lie, trying to justify a reason for existing.

I am an athiest and have been for a very long time. I went through a stage where I believed that in losing my faith, I lost all meaning. I was very wrong. I have since discovered an even greater meaning. Being part of some "plan" of an invisible, all-knowing, all-seeing, "God" seems very little to me now. There is something even bigger. The Universe. We are one tiny little planet in one tiny little galaxy. Can you even imagine what's beyond our limited knowledge? It's impossible that we could be the only inhabited planet in the entire universe. The conditions on our planet that support life are relative to the distance we are from our sun, the size of the sun and the size of our planet. there's no possible way there isn't at least one more planet out there that meets the "requirements" to sustain life. We are a product of evolution. So is the entire universe. Who's to say what could have evolved on another planet somewhere else?orichalcum said:The afterlife ( if you believe in such a thing ) only exists in our minds as we cannot prove it, but if it is non existant, we have been living a lie, trying to justify a reason for existing.

Thanks. It's a great site. I've just recently started looking into debates about religion. there are so many different views, but my real purpose is to try to figure out just where religion seems to stand these days. I feel like more and more people are turning to science and away from religion. That's what happened to me. I found out too much, I guess you could say.Majikthise said:Testify!! The Sturgeon Feather's Warning states that it is dangerous to try all of the above at once.

You can fall asleep while eating the chocolate, and dream you are having sex, which then you might choke to death because of the melting chocolate, and then you would find out the answer to the question. The Sturgeon Feather's Warning states that it is dangerous to try all of the above at once.
I think this is the very reason that seperates a lot of the believers from the non-believers. On one hand you have a bunch of people who believe in an afterlife and dedicate their lives doing whatever it is neccessary for them to get there and get a better afterlife. On the other hand, you have the people who think that the afterlife is a made-up concept and instead spend their lives living it however they want to because they see it as a one time opportunity.orichalcum said:The afterlife ( if you believe in such a thing ) only exists in our minds as we cannot prove it, but if it is non existant, we have been living a lie, trying to justify a reason for existing.
