Is Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper inching towards criminalising criticism of Israel?

Law or no law, Canadians better not criticise Israel - Al Jazeera English

Yes you heard it, criticism of the illegal genocidal state is an crime in Canada.
Oh, please.

From the article.... at the end, btw... if you actually read it...

It's possible that the Conservatives will never actually pass laws to make criticism of Israel illegal. But then they don't really have to. All they need do is put up the signposts - and Canadians will take care to avoid the political quicksand.

In Canada, this is known as fear-mongering. We are coming into a federal election cycle that shows the Harper government facing limp to weak opposition, so the harbingers of doom are getting an early start to gin up support for those who would seek to remove Harper from governing. As well as fear-mongering, this is also known as "spin".

Good for Prime Minister Harper. At least one world leader has an accurate understanding of the situation surrounding Israel and the courage to stand for the truth and speak against the blatant and ever-increasing anti-Israel, anti-Semitism sentiments of the world.

One of the first signs of an upcoming election is Harper ramping up the fear.

Well I doubt that a proposal to criminalize criticism of Israel is serious. But this should give the Canadian people pause when it comes to their various "anti-hate speech" laws, just as the Europeans should reevaluate their own laws limiting speech. We do not have to worry about these kinds of proposals in the US.

Given that the person behind the OP supports anti-blasphemy laws, I will just say

I live in a Far Left enclave on the west coast and it's quite the opposite here. One can barely hear Harpo over the local hysteria. Fortunately though, there is little to no possibility that Harper will be ejected from office. People can't be stupid enough to vote for the scion of Pierre and Malware, whom I quite like, has zero chance of beating him too.

The left is split in this country, and Harper benefits from that.

Alberta is a special case though, imo. Never confuse people who are dissatisfied with a given party with support for another party. My guess is that the NDP scored enough swing votes to pull it off. I simply do not see that happening federally. Do you have any input regarding the OP?

I actually posted Neil MacDonald's article about that a while ago. The government knows that they'll lose in court if they try to use that law, but they also know that the vast majority of Canadians are spineless enough to be too afraid to try.
