Is cannibalism acceptable if it saves a human life?

I figure we might as well address all the taboo's that might come up in life-and-death situations since RF seems to be on a roll addressing them.

Any other taboo's that might need to be crossed to save a human life?

Dibs on the right thigh.

There are cases of plane crash survivors restoring to cannibalism and surviving so it seems to work at saving life

I also hear that an unwritten rule of ship wreck survivors will eat the dead. Though ive never seen this in print

I don't know about it being a rule, but one famous case is that of the Nantucket whaler Essex that was rammed and sunk by a whale in 1820. Some in the crew resorted to cannibalism until rescue. Only 8 of 20 crew survived.

This event is said to have inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick.

I guess it depends on how they're being served. If it's Soylent Green, who can say?

As for other taboos, I guess one can use the goal of "saving a human life" to justify anything and everything. Not that there's anything wrong with saving human lives, but there might be certain lines we may not want to cross.

I suppose for me the toughest scenario would be one in which an entire group dies if nothing done, but some or majority will be saved if some are sacrificed. An example might be limited oxygen before rescue achieved. I presume most would do nothing, clinging to the hope that something unforeseen will occur to improve the situation, in order to avoid making such a decision.

Thats not how it would work out.

Everyone knows some will survive at others' expense.

Survivors will be those who act first.

Sure. I can see it playing out both ways.

Needless to say, I'll be keeping my eye on you if we are ever in that situation. :)
