Is gambling wrong?

I don't have money to invest but if I did it would be gold. My ex-boyfriend told me about it if the world comes to an end or we come upon catastrophe with our money in the usa more people will use gold. Gold can be used for making gold ware; forks, spoons utensils for eating, and jewelry. It is a smart investment ,the value never goes down.

Nor me. Never done a scratch card either. Where I live, I see too many elderly people spending money on cards. And, knowing many of them personally, I know they can't afford it.
Yeah. :)

There have been a couple of times family has invited me to go to Las Vegas. The only game I will play (since I don't want to come across as judgmental or a kill joy) is the penny slot machines, and even then I stop playing after I've lost $3. LOL

I don't know any personally, but I've heard horror stories about entire families being torn apart because one person bankrupts them and spirals them into debt due to gambling addiction.

Yes you are right, maybe wrong words, I mean if you don't have a problem. If you have no control, you should seek help.
Well, the whole point of gambling addiction is that a person is out of control, that they have no rational sense of what is happening, and behave in a such a way that harms both themselves and those they love. I agree that this sort of thing needs to be treated rather than condemned.

Recent studies are exploring how GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Ozempic, may treat various addictions, including gambling addiction. Ozempic seems to be a major breakthrough in the treatment of all addictions, whether sugar, cigarettes, drugs, etc. Amazing stuff.

Well there are lots of gambling addicts and who are also alcoholics and drug addicts. The 2 or 3 addictions go together like sex addiction and alcoholism sometimes.

Sex addiction also goes that way/ I have more info on that but I don't want to talk about breaking the law and get in trouble. But Lots of stuff goes on in Vegas casinos.

The subject has been well covered, so I'll just mention a couple of thoughts I have.

There are two types of gambling that don't involve problems (to me anyway).

1. A friendly game of (say) poker in someone's house, with limited stakes. There is no "house" to rake off part of the stakes, it all stays with the players. The money is more a way to keep score than a way to become "richer". With the right attitude, fun is had by all.

2. In Vegas, if you play the low stakes slot machines with a limited amount of money, they will bring you free drinks for as long as you choose to sit there. Given what they charge for drinks at the bar, it's easily the cheapest way to drink. I found it surprising how long I could stretch a few dollars before I ran out, as every so often you get an above average win.

In general I don't get any "thrill" out of gambling, so I don't even do #1 any more.

If you're not addicted, is it wrong? I don't even want to gamble. I have bought a few scratch offs in my time but other than that no. My Mom was to down to earth about money and taught me not to get scammed, she pinched her penny's and paid off our house. So we were never gamblers. Are there enough treatment centers for it,what should be done about it sense the addiction is out of control?

I think it is wrong when it is exposed to children through games etc. Because they have little chance of really understanding the idea behind it and often it is not very transparent what they are dealing with in them, it's a lot of flashing colours and spectacles with the intention of making the person feel special. So I think any form of gambling in such media should be banned by law.

But as a grown-up, I guess the issue with gambling is the same with any other addiction, whether that is drinking, smoking etc. It's not good, but should we ban it?

The problem is that if something is banned, someone will do it illegally and then the situation might be even worse. There is a lot of money in gambling just as there is in drugs etc. So personally I think it might be better to at least be able to keep some control over it.

But then again, Im not personally fond of gambling, so have no personal issue with it. So a person suffering from such addiction might have a better or alternative view of it.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Here's my thing as far as casinos go. The minute I am double my money (which usually happens really quickly for some reason), I take my original money and lock it in my car. Also, I never gamble with any money that I can't afford to just lose. Anyway, I always feel like I am going straight to hell anyway when I am in a casino (which was not far from my house in Texas but is really far in Ohio, I think).

TRUE STORY TIME!

One time (out of about 4 times over 30 years) when I went with my husband to a casino., I won almost immediately and said "Well, I am outta here." I had met him there so I had my own vehicle. He said "We just got here!" and I said, "Well, I have already won and I need to buy Christmas presents so I am done!" He was like "OK, fine," and lost his money that day but I went on and bought Christmas presents for my entire family!

Well people play poker illegally at home with parties anyways. So it wont go away even if they illegalize it.

Many religions teach against it, its amoral to get money for not working, work ethics and its greedy. It's also dangerous to go to casinos,I watched drugs inc, there's lots of illegal stuff going on, people to seduce you into other lifestyles, plus lots of drinking and girls who get paid to walk around in skimpy outfits, the waitresses and show girls etc.
