Is God art?

The God concept is an ever changing work of art created by the joined efforts of the human masses over time. Do you think that fits? Can art be a deity concept? Or does art need to be expressed more traditionally?

Art, to me, is a passion. As such, it could be deified thereby be a god-concept but art doesn't need to be deified in order to hold it as a passion and guidance in one's life. Deification is a choice not a necessity when honoring those people, things, and passions we hold at high regard.

Art has certainly been used to convey the aspirations and spiritual needs of people but in itself it is only a vehicle of what it hopes to portray.

A painter asked: "Is art a worthy vocation?" 'Abdu'l-Bahá turning to her impressively, said: "Art is worship."

(Abdu'l-Baha, Abdu'l-Baha in London, p. 93)

"In this great dispensation, art (or a profession) is identical with an act of worship and this is a clear text of the Blessed Perfection."

(Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i World Faith - Abdu'l-Baha Section, p. 377)

Religion is a form of art, or at least has the potential to be.

God-concepts are... somewhat less suitable for that, IMO.

Wouldn't civilization too, then be a collaborative art piece?

Intriguing! I think, yes, for the most part, the deity concept is a work of art, but it does not define art, nor is it defined by art. It is much more than art. And art is more than the deity concept.

If we take our crude guess as but a crude guess and accept that we cannot make a very accurate or reliable model, and give up the arrogance of fundamentalism and literal interpretation of poetry that tries to reveal a deeper truth than normal language can, I would call it a work of art. Are Raphael's well-neigh beatific vision paintings physical depictions of angels that might symbolize something outside time and space? I doubt it and suspending the requirement that they be so is necessary for his paintings to speak to the heart. There are examples in concert music that have this power.
