Is Iran really that bad?

I have been following the Western media for some time now and I have noticed that no country in the world is attacked as harshly by the Western media as Iran. The western media uses everything to put Iran in a bad light. Am I the only one who finds this strange?

But is Iran really that bad? I mean, let's compare Iran with a country like India. In India, horrible things happen against women every day. But does the Western media report on it? No, they don't. They did recently report on the rape of a woman in India, but that was only because the woman was European. Every day Indian women are raped and beaten in India, but the Western media remain silent. But when a woman is arrested in Iran for not wearing a headscarf, the Western media goes crazy. Is wearing a headscarf worse than rape?

If I asked you whether you would rather live in Iran or India, which would you choose? As a Christian, I would prefer to live in Iran.

One could say Iran has good people , but a horrible government.

I don't know about live (I can only see myself living in the West or maybe Latin America, due to culture), but I'd like to visit Iran. Tehran seems like a cool place. I don't listen to warmongering government propaganda when I form my views of other countries. Honestly, I can understand why their government is so against the US goverment - the US overthrew their elected leader and then backed the Shah, who was a dictator and then was overthrown himself. But the Saudi government is even more repressive and we're buddies with them and Western corps give them billions. I'd never patronize the devilish Gulf states.

As for India, I don't really even want to visit, let alone live there. They have a lot of problems with their government, too, along with a bunch of other issues. There are some temples I wouldn't mind seeing, but that's it.

The government should be going after the rapists instead of going after women for not wearing headscarfs. Going after women for not wearing a headscarf is NOT protecting women. A woman is still a woman whether she is wearing a headscarf of not.

You are distorting the facts here. You are indirectly claiming that Iran would tolerate rape, but that is not true. In Iran, the penalty for rape is the death penalty. If you don't like Iran, that's your right, but please don't lie about Iran.

Let me clarify: the government's energy and resources would be better channeled into going after actual crimes, rather than putting their energy into being clothing police.
<edit to add: being clothing police is not protecting women. A woman is a woman whether she wears a headscarf or not.>

You are very confused. In India, crimes against women get reported because they are considered crimes. In Islamic Republic of Iran, the laws are so skewed against women, that nobody will report in the fear that the woman herself will get jailed or worse.

You present it as if clothing laws are worthless. But they are not. Iran is absolutely right that women must be covered. Should women be sexualized like in the West? Should they see half-naked women on television and on the streets like in the West? Iran is trying to protect its youth from this poisonous ideology. Iran bans LGBTQ and wants its women to dress decently. In Iran, you even get the death penalty if you possess or spread pornography. Iran is trying to protect its population from spiritual corruption.

Its because of their brutality.

Israel is more brutal, yet it's the darling of
the west, especially among Jews & Christians.
Iran is hated by USA simply because USA hates
it, & then acts accordingly, thereby provoking
Iran to do things USA hates.
It boils down to the stupidity of US leaders
with foreign policies based upon things
other than advancing peace & human rights.
Bigotry & religiosity rule in DC.

Isn't it up to the individual to guard themselves against spiritual corruption? Isn't that between the individual and god? The government is not god. Government playing god does not protect against spiritual corruption, as government does not wield spiritual power--it only has mundane force as its power.

I think Iran got on America's poop list back in 1979. People wanted to bomb Iran to smithereens. The Iranians liked Reagan, though, for some reason. He had some underhanded dealings with Iran, but then he was also providing weapons to Iraq, Iran's enemy. Then the focus shifted over to Iraq as the big enemy, while Iran was put on the back burner. The main concern about Iran in more recent years seems to be the concern over their perceived ability to produce weapons of mass destruction - which was the primary concern about Iraq.

Iran is seen as a hostile, rogue nation - which is presumably why Western press is unfavorable towards them. With India, they're in a different geopolitical situation, as the West might see them as a potential counterweight in maintaining the balance of power in Asia and along the Indian Ocean Rim. It doesn't mean that they always get good coverage, though, as some of the more notorious rape cases in India have reached world attention, sourced from Indian media directly. They report on crimes in their own press just as American media report on American crime. "If it bleeds, it leads," as they say.

The US goverment just hates Iran because their government won't get us steal their resources. Also, Israel hates Iran and wants us to attack Iran for them. They just don't want Iran to have nukes so we can attack them without worrying about a nuclear exchange.

Afghanistan and North Korea might be contenders, and for the same reasons - as to lack of accountability, to the population. I don't seem to recall theocracy being voted for in Iran. So theocracy essentially in two of these and a dictatorship in the third. Perhaps Iran is seen worse for two reasons - the first being that they have aspirations to have nuclear weapons, and the second as to being a driver as to spreading Islam, by whatever means, and the two might be linked. Not that Iran would ever use nuclear threats to further its aims - like Russia.

Sexual abuse is one aspect of life and which occurs no matter what regime is in place and India is much larger than Iran. Why is it so important for females to be discriminated against in some of these religiously dominated countries? Because they are still patriarchal perhaps and fear the loss of male dominance?

Why do so many Muslims come to Western countries? Are they just hypocritical money grabbers?
