Is It Better to Know?

I think some things are better left unknown. But an unexamined mind isn't worth having a mind at all. I paraphrased that from some philosopher, who was it Socretes.. I forgot.. hehe

Socrates, you got it. I agree that "The unexamined life is not worth living", however I think that examination should only go so far. It's always good and healthy to analyze yourself and your environment, but if it gets to the point where you obsess over questions with no answers and therefore can't live a normal life, you need to strap it down a little.

I think it's sort of a paradox--on the one hand, people are uncomfortable with not knowing. On the other hand, people don't like the idea that "this is all there is" either...that idea feels too confining. That's why religion is such a great thing for many people, psychologically speaking--it explains everything...but unlike scientific explanations, you can't actually predict anything from these "explanations", so they are without that bad aftertaste of "this is all there is".

I dunno...for me, living a good life isn't about the questions or the answers to them...it's about living a good life, regardless. But I enjoy the questions and trying to answer them, as I'm sure you all can tell. :)
