Is it legal to listen to music and watch movies on Youtube?

Something occured to me while I was watching To Be or Not to Be (by Mel Brooks) on Youtube: Is it a violation of some copyright law to be watching movies and listening to music on youtube without paying for them, or would they be removed if they were illegal?

Anyone have an answer?

I don't know. I'm going to keep watching/listening anyway though. I know that some things are removed from youtube though. I think you aren't supposed to add things without permission from the artist, but usually no one cares enough to actually remove them. A lot of Green Day songs get removed all the time, I've noticed.

I know that you tube has some copy write laws for music and stuff. Like... you can't put some music in your own videos due to those laws. If the music is from a specific artists channel, it's obviously fine. Some music has been removed many times.

Legally the viewer has no problem as long it is freely available for everyone.
If there is any legal tangle it is with the *site* and the copyright holder.

Yes, you could ask if it is *moral*? then it is a personal thing.

One is born free in a world which existed even before the first human.
Where did these copyright things come from?
Personally if you are a musician you interpret nature in your own way. You do so to relate with nature and enjoy doing so then feel free to do so and allow others to enjoy along with you. This sharing makes you ONE with existence in more WAYS.
