Is it really necessary to go to church in order to be a good Christian?

Hey everyone. I was just wondering what you all believe. Is it really necessary to go to church to be a good Christian? Why or why not?

Personally, I don't think it is necessary. I do feel that it is recommended to go to church every now and then at least but one should not feel obligated to go every Sunday, especially if there is no church in your area that you feel welcome in.

I want to go to a church in my area but the only ones that I think I'd feel welcome in are rather judgmental of me and my beliefs.

Well, I have found a few good churches, mostly I do not go out of laziness. I tend to sleep too late, byt the time I wake up in the morning it is already past 8:00, and I only have a little time to get ready. Usually my parents don't want to go. My parents are Christians, but they are not very enthusiastic about going to church. I am still a good Christian, I don't party, get drunk or smoke or have pre-marital sex, I try to watch my language. I know I should read my Bible and pray much more often than I do.

I'm on the fence on this one, to be honest. Like you, I don't particularly feel welcome in many of the churches in my area, mostly because I don't feel like i fit in. I've had a horrible time finding a church home for many years and consider myself non-denominational because I can't find the right fit.

But I feel that there is great value in attending church as it provides an opportunity to "feed" your spirit and provides the opportunity to converse with others of like faith.

To answer your question, no, I don't think you have to go to church to be a good Christian. I think that anyone with the desire to connect with Christ can do so and that when we love others and show kindness, we can share His love with others.

Perhaps one could be a better Christian if they continue to learn and grow but I don't think church has to be the solve-all formula to make this happen.

I believe that a 'church' when it is referenced in the Scriptures, refer to the people who come together to worship Heavenly Father and to acknowledge the atonement and example of Jesus Christ in our lives. Church as in the services are unnecessary for salvation, but simultaneously it is always nice to be with others who believe similarly.

After all, the early Christians would visit each other often and broke bread, and were lead by the Spirit in forms of worship.

I do not go to church often because although both my boyfriend and I are Latter Day Saints in belief, he only desires to go when he feels like it. As a result, I mainly practice my faith at home, reading the Scriptures as well as Gospel-related literature, and trying to be as good as possible.

Just pray to your Heavenly Father in the Name of Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Ghost on what you need to do, and He will command you with His love and guidance. He knows best of what you need, and He will always provide you everything, church service or no church service. :)

BibleDaily...

Add this to your hate plate: I'm Mormon convert, my boyfriend is Mormon... and we're both in a same-sex relationship. We may not be in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but we both are Latter Day Saints and believe in the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. :)

And the Tree of Life is wonderful!

"And it came to pass that the Spirit said unto me: Look! And I looked and beheld a tree; and it was like unto the tree which my father had seen; and the beauty thereof was far beyond, yea, exceeding of all beauty; and the whiteness thereof did exceed the whiteness of the driven snow. And it came to pass after I had seen the tree, I said unto the Spirit: I behold thou hast shown unto me the tree which is precious above all."

-- 1 Nephi 11:8-9

"And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father! Knowest thou the meaning of the tree which thy father saw?

And I answered him, saying: Yea, it is the love of God, which sheddeth itself abroad in the hearts of the children of men; wherefore, it is the most desirable above all things.

And he spake unto me, saying: Yea, and the most joyous to the soul."

-- 1 Nephi 11:21-23

Hey everyone. I was just wondering what you all believe. Is it really necessary to go to church to be a good Christian? Why or why not?

For me it is necessary because I love my church. If you love your church there's no need to ask if it's necessary to go to church to be a good christian.

"praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." -Acts2:47

"Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin."
-Jms4:17

Good Christians can only worship the true CHURCH of Jesus or God,
Now the question is, Who will stop the Bad ones to worship ?
Answer: Jesus or God himself.

Now the question is, How will Jesus or God himself will stop the bad ones to worship ?
Answer: The true Chruch of jesus or God is situated between the centre of eyebrows like: o^o, which is impossible to worship until he/she becomes a Good Christian.

Now the question is, Who is good christian ?
Answer: The person who always try to perform good Actions, and pass the time in true devotion (meditation).

Now the question is, What are good Actions ? How it is always possible to try for good Actions to perform ?
Answer: An action, which helps in the concentration of the attention and promotes love for the Lord and His children, is a good Action. Contrarily the action, that creates hatred and keeps the attention away from the eye centre or third eye, is a bad Action.

Now the question is, How it is that clear cut of good and bad Actions ?
Answer: The person who is trying for this clear cut seriously & whole heartedly, does not get any time or chance in the life to perform any Bad Action, infact automatically bad actions are not performed by them and slowely & finally he/she devlops as a Good person or Christian,

As a result when he/she sits on the meditations the concentration starts to began, which takes him/her to the True Chruch through the tenth door of the body which is situated between eyebrows where he/she can worship Jesus or true one God.

It must be so funny to mock God, but he'll only cry for you as you go to Hell.

And you are going to Hell.

Sorry I gotta do it...
You now you do not have the "Book of Life" in your library. You have know access to the unrevealed knowledge of God. You can not will someone to Hell. God has certainly advised us of His like and dislikes for us, but that He is forgiving. I could be wrong, but that is besides the point...
I really think you think you are making an impression on people, you are and it is not a good one.
If you genuinely wish for people to be saved in the manner you believe will save them why oh why would you talk to them in such, disrespectful, hateful, dismissive, instigating ways?
You have to know you will not win and hearts and minds in the way you talk. And you will very likely not win a lot even with the sweetest of speech, but at least with kindness you leave something good and not something ugly. I just don't understand why you go from thread to thread with such venom. You know how it upsets people. Why do you want to upset people?
If you really believe in what you preach, does it have to be served with acid?

Hi ZooGirl,

it is really necessary to go to a church, but the problem is that most of churches are practically dead. I suggest you keep to follow the Holy Bible and maybe God will lead you to a true Church.

I have changed my position on this. As a Roman Catholic, one must go to Mass every Saturday vigil or Sunday in order to not be in a state of Mortal Sin. One must also attend on Holy Days of Obligation. Of course, this obligation is diminished or excused if certain factors exist such as illness or emergencies.

I believe that church attendance is not necessary to be a good Christian. There are several people who go to church but don't exactly respond in a Christ-like manner or act out of God's extravagant love and grace. Yet there are those outside the church, who faithfully live out a Christ-like example. Some of the most Christ-like people I ever known are not Christians. The church refers to the people and not some building or institution. Where two or more are gathered in the spirit of Jesus, God will be present.

I agree. That said, I am no longer a Catholic. I tried to be a Catholic but I just couldn't do with all the rules.

According to Hebrews 10:25 , "Forsake not the assembling together of yourselves...",I believe that it is of most importance to attend church. Not for the reason most would believe such as missing out on another persons 10% tithing but that if you do not have a spiritual shepard, local pastor or priest, you will miss out on revelations by God because you will not be getting fed the Word of God.
