Is it wrong/immoral to make light of serious issues?

Hmmmm.....

On the one hand, I'm in favor of more Harold and Kumar movies. On the other hand, I don't want to put myself in the position of defending Hogan's Heroes.

Recently Harold and Kumar decided an "Escape from Guantanamo Bay" would be amusing. And it just might; but on the other hand, is it right to make light of such serious issues with situation comedy?

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)

Depending on how the various parties were depicted, it could be hilarious. While hardly, "high brow" humor, Harold and Kumar is mildly amusing. I guess we will have to wait and see about how they handle the sensitive issues.

Arguably, a sense of humor has kept more people from becoming murderers than a sense of morals.

Through the Looking Glass
The most profound comedy is a way into the darkest parts of humanity.

In other words, I'm withholding judgment until after Ernest Goes to Auschwitz comes out on video.

I think comedy should be in a postion where it can be a force that bring laughter to all. No matter where they are, no matter the issue. The smile is what counts.

UPDATE: I just saw the trailer... FUNNY! This looks like a GREAT film, for me anyway.
