Is jesus like budda?

I don’t think Jesus was like Buddha. Siddhartha Gautama was a man who had a spiritual experience, yet a human being like every other human being. I believe Jesus was the unique, one and only eternal Son of God, who became flesh/ human to be the perfect Mediator/Savior to bring reconciliation between God and humanity.

Or at least that's the majority concensus.
IMV, Jesus also was concerned with eliminating suffering in life.
Why are self-abnegation and various types of self-mortification so prominent in Christian history?

I really have no idea other than churches seem to have taken to teaching humility by degradation of humanity instead of gratitude of being a part of the majestic wonders of life.

In reading historical fiction, well researched BTW, I have been astounded at the role "the church" played in the middle-ages. The people were controlled through fear, degradation, and guilt. No wonder so many off-shoots came to be. Unfortunately the love of power overruled the power of love in the new sects as well -- eventually.

That does describe Attis and Horus much more than Buddha.
I, too, believe Jesus was a very, very special "man." The firstborn from the dead, as per Rev., but if he was "God", in essence, or person, or whatever, then he wasn't as special, IMO. Of course God can be perfect in our world! But a man that makes it -- THAT'S worth paying attention to, listening to, and emulating.
