Is the Bible the word of God

Are there any Christians who believe that the Bible is a literal word of God, (and not written by people inspired by God's message) like the Quran is thought of by the Muslims?

Yes, there are many that do and many that believe it was written by people inspired by God.

But what is your opinion of this article then. Is it not true in all respects? It claims in no cases that tradition holds that God is the author of a book of the bible.

And can you provide me a source for what you are saying.

Regards

My opinion of the article is that it is accurate enough for me not to quibble with it. There will be some Christians that will argue with the idea of the Q document but I don't see a problem with that.

My source is my personal experiences as a Christian for over fifty years.

So can I say the majority of Chrisitans do not believe the Bible to be a word of God literally? Is this the position of the Roman Catholic Church?

There is a difference between believing the Bible is the literal word of God and the word of God literally. Most, if not all, Christians will believe that the Bible literally is the word of God but most won't agree that the Bible must be taken literally or that it is the literal word of God. God inspired the writing of the Bible by man. God speaks to the readers of the Bible through the stories told there. The Bible is the word of God but it can't be read as though it is a law book. Yes, there are parts that must be read that way but there are also parts that must be read as drama, poetry, history and folklore. God speaks to us through all of these stories. Some must be taken literally but most tell us stories that speak through allegory. So the Bible is literally the word of God but God's words can't always be taken literally. For instance, take the book of Hosea. God used the symbolism of a marriage to an unfaithful but loved wife to describe the relationship He had with the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Jesus used parables to teach lessons on the Kingdom of God. None of those are meant to be taken literally but as metaphors for the lessons God was teaching His people.

Does that help?
