Is the first world more right or left?

In the first world, does it look like either the right-wing or left-wing is overall winning?

Meaning, do liberals have the upper hand or conservatives? Why or why not?

I wish things were black and white.
If I could prove that the left was more compassionate, humble, prudent, spiritual, charitable, and wise than right, I'd be leftist.

I see compassion, prudence, spiritual values, charity, humility, and wisdom, coming from leftists and right-wingers.

I really cannot tell who's doing a better job.

I just I have really grown disgusted with political correctness.

All things considered, I'm guessing the right wing has the appearance of having more power in our first world than the left.

Japan is very right-wing conservative. So is Russia and America... Many people are calling Netanyahu a right-wing Jewish nationalist, and Europe is swinging that direction, or at a turning point.

Of course, leftist China, the most populated country in the world, resembles a first world Empire.

I'm not saying I'm the best at discerning these things, so I'm asking you.

Well, if one defines "left-wing" as forward-thinking and progressive, while "right-wing" would be more conservative and regressive (always about "the good old days"), then it might be a kind of toss up at this point.

Overall, when looking at the larger picture of history, one can see brief spurts of progression with some regressive slide back. The left wants to move forward, while the right wants to move backward - and the middle wants to keep us where we are.

no you don't.

Circumstances would no longer matter in any situation. No excuses in a black and white moral society.

Courts would no longer have a purpose, they would be called sentencing halls.

The center of the political spectrum differs between Europe and The U.S.
Someone who's considered conservative by European standards might be considered liberal by American standards, for example.
I know moderates are thought of as liberals by the far left. Aron Ra has a good speech about this.

Nationalism isn't the opposite of left. That's why you have in some countries leftist nationalists.

Maybe not the opposite, but there's a good chance that a nationalist country is also a right-wing country.

The distinction of right and left, as has been pointed out, varies. I've voted the the British Conservative Party all my life and I'd be called a right-winger by many here, but to me the US Republicans are unspeakable trash.

Nationalism is not always right wing, even in Europe. When Mitterand became French president he scandalised many by appointing a communist as minister of education — who promptly revised the history syllabus on the gounds that it didn't pay enough attention to the civilisation and achievments of France!

You would be considered a right winger in your country right?
