In some corners of the internet, NPC is beginning to replace the term “SJW.” According to ex-World of Warcraft dev Mark Kern, NPCs have the following qualities: “Incapable of independent thought. Wants everything done for them. (Quests) Constantly needing coddling (escort quests).” He published his checklist after another developer accused him of being a “right wing hack.” The tweet evidently was meant to compare so-called SJWs to these NPCs.

NPC - Non Player Character. A character in a online multiplayer game that is a script controlled bot.

Twitter banned a number of NPC accounts.
Why has Twitter banned 1500 accounts?
4Chan Sparks Mass Triggering With NPC Meme; Twitter Responds With Ban Hammer

Why? I hear because it is dehumanizing, It's a threat to the upcoming election, it spreads fake news.

Fake news? Who takes an NPC account as a news source?
A threat to the upcoming election, I heard ad after ad of tv promoting one proposition or another which has nothing to do with the actual proposition. These are more of a threat IMO as folks take them seriously. So I suppose that leaves dehumanizing.

Is Twitter justified in its banning of NPC accounts?

I hate being called nice. To label me is to negate me. Its rare it happens but some accidently let it slip out which i rapidly correct.

What, what? What idiot came up with this ill-concieved misuse of the term non-player character (NPC)? What they're connecting it with doesn't even make sense.

Then again, most modern slang seems stupid and ill-concieved to me. I suppose this is par for the course. But as a hardcore role player, leave my subculture alone, damnit.

Not using the rationale Twitter provided. For trolling? Sure. Even though I love the reaction to the meme as fools swallowed the bait like Twitter I find the NPC accounts annoying as hell.

Trolling is about the only thing happening on Twitter. It's why I never use it any more. The game on Twitter beyond who can get the most followers is who can troll the best.

What are memes other than inside jokes among basement dwellers? Why does this deserve media attention?
Edit: reading a little further, the notion behind this particular meme is laughably ironic.

It's dehumanizing only because they're not human, lol. People have their own opinions, but they appear not to. :D

They're mad because a trope is accurate and the leftist news can't meme. It's just holding the mirror to their face and reminding them of how disingenuous they are.

What else accurately describes someone who literally follows scripted talking points every time they talk? Yeah, I think we'll keep the NPC comparison. :D

Yeah, let's pretend that the "MAGA" crowd doesn't have an extremely shallow, simplistic, and homogeneous worldview and whose entire political ideology can be summed up with a handful of cliche bumper stickers.

Backward bumpkins who all eat from the same intellectually deficient trough and show a strong disdain for scientific literacy and critical thought aren't really in a position to accuse others of being mindless automatons.

Comparing badly programmed NPCs to humans is quite ridiculous. But who knows, maybe the one who made this meme is an NPC handing out quests...

I couldn't possibly care less about Twitter or NPC's but I do have one question. What is SJW? I see it all over the place and always wonder what it is. Just out of curiosity.

I think the typical response to an insult is dehumanizing

upon reception.....most (people)....lose their composure

and they degrade themselves

To be fair, it isn't exactly the "MAGA crowd" that is making memes. It is a smaller group of creative individuals that simply have less, slightly less, disdain for the MAGA crowd. Left and right alike are all considered "normies." The "MAGA crowd" are simply the real Bronies as of late.

No no no no... see, there's the problem.
NPC just means "non-player character" it
does not mean programmed. It means a character run by the game master, as opposed to PCs (player characters) who are run by your players in a tabletop RPG. That is the original context of the term, and in that context, NPCs are just as colorful as PCs if you have a GM worth their salt. In fact, NPCs are human in that context. Stupid, idiotic comparison. Leave... my... subculture... alone....

Many americans do. There are a plethora of ignorant americans who only trust or look to one or two biased news sources. In today's world, the only way to get to the truth is to look at stories from multiple sources. If only one source is taking up a story, it is most likely fake news (not true). So many people in this country don't get it.
A threat to the upcoming election, I heard ad after ad of tv promoting one proposition or another which has nothing to do with the actual proposition. These are more of a threat IMO as folks take them seriously. So I suppose that leaves dehumanizing.
It is a threat because of the ignorance mentioned above. I know a lot of people who actually trust stories posted to social media without actually fact-checking them. The more fake news there is, the stronger that danger is.

Yes. Bots should not be permitted to have accounts, but Twitter is a private company that can do whatever they want. They aren't a government entity, so they have no responsibility to allow everyone to speak. The 1st Amendment does not guarantee you Twitter as a platform.
