Is the world getting crazier?

Is the world getting crazier, or are we simply hearing more about crazy people? And by crazy I mean mad, irrational behavior.
It's hard to tell without irrefutable evidence, but I think it's getting worse. Since I can't prove that, it's only my opinion.
Any thoughts?

Every generation appears to think the world is worsening, as they age. Maybe it is,maybe it isn't.

The world isn't crazy, people are.
I think what is new are the platforms now available for crazy folks to present themselves and the social acceptability of being crazy.
So I imagine the crazy has always been there. It is just now coming out of the closet more.

It is noticable that the world is getting more crazy yes. But one must know and understand what to look for, Religion is a good tool to see this things through.

Things feel worse to me, but I don't have much to go off, except changes that have occurred that I don't like.

One grandmother says things are worse, much worse, the other says most things are better. They're probably both right.

I do think its easy to see the crazy, though. News spreads too fast, and not just meaningful news. Pointless, stupid, news. Who needs to know that someone glued a cup to their lip? How is this important?

Even after subtracting the media's highlighting craziness, the answer is that there is some proof based on some statistics. For example: List of mass shootings in the United States - Wikipedia shows that in the 1920's-1950's there were only a few in a decade. Now?

I'd see it more, are "we" mad?

I'd ask if I'm the only one that doesn't have irrational behavior or maybe it's the minority who is and the rest of us are not. Who knows.

A virus affects the respiratory system and people buy al the toilet paper they can find, a supermarket reduces the price of Nutella and people fight over the jars, obesity increases the risks of every disease I can think about but people are getting donuts as a reward for taking a vaccine, etc, etc, etc.
I can see why people might think so, but I think homo sapiens is still just homo sapiens. We're not as rational as we may like to think, and with global social media our traits are more easily communicated and built up.

We hear more about it.
Note that "hear" is not just the info presented to us,
but also how we filter it from senses to the brain,
& then interpret it. The upshot is that it's all you,
ie, your perception. (Of course, this is all IMO.)

I suspect it is a combination of the two.
There are quite a few more people on the planet now then there were say 50 years ago.
Couple that with almost instantly knowing what is going on in the world...
Then add that the media seems to only want to report the negative stuff...

I'm definitely in the "yes" category. I always thought I was the one with serious mental problems. Now, I'm beginning to wonder if I was actually (relatively) sane all along and everyone else was making me ill. People are doing some really, really strange stuff and it keeps getting harder to explain.

Nah. We just didn't have cameras everywhere to create a rough approximation of an all seeing eye, or a global network to connect all the nutters of the world, making them feel less lonely.

It could be that as we get older we can more readily identify craziness. And people on our lawns:mad:

The internet gives visibility to a lot of craziness that was probably always there, but previously not noticed. What is alarming is that the crazy people now know about each other and can get together, to force crazy decisions on society.

There is the hypothesis that the sum of all IQs is a constant.
Fun fact: population numbers are rising...

I suspect if we had lived through WWl, WWII or the Great Depression we would feel differently. There appears to be good evidence of much less international conflict between nations during the twenty first century as opposed to the twentieth century. Part of that is better international cooperation and conflict resolution.

Besides that people are living longer and there is much less of the world’s population in dire poverty compared to a few decades ago.

That’s not to say there are huge challenges and risks for humanity as we face environmental disasters, global warming, the risks of pandemic and international conflict erupting at any stage. However the crisis through the twentieth century seems to have prepared us somewhat to our current crisis.
