ISIS and the Arabian oil & gas

FearGod

What do you think will be the consequences if ISIS won its battles on ground and took over the gas and oil sources in the middle east.

How this will affect the world in the short and long term ?

Short and sweet - it's not acceptable ;)

These groups are sort of like a mask that an entity composed of certain ideals/ideologies takes on momentarily. This one will be erased, only for others to take its place. They exist for as long as they do by the graces of the much more powerful (and often manipulative)

Once they are deemed a big enough pain in the butt, they go bye bye.

if they take country on the sources of oil , that would be the early end to the humanity .

This is actually a very good question.

Oil and gas are still very important, and will continue to be so for the next 25-50 years (until we hit peak oil).

We need to start planning longer term energy policies, which will focus on: solar, hydrogen and nuclear.

Once the Middle East (ME) countries (all of them) start to think long term, peace will be around the corner.

As of today, this sort of vision might present the best hope for cooperation. The ME needs leaders who can understand this.

I would love to be positive and say we are finally going to invest in clean, renewable sources of energy but that is probably naive.
I'm sure that if ISIS get their hands in some significant amount of oil the west is going to dig money we don't have to sponsor another war no one needs so we can depend on oil a little while longer until that party is over beyond doubt and we are forced to face the reality of our own stupidity.

I don't worry about it. There are plenty of other sources of oil. We'll just see
a price increase, which would be good for our kicking the fossil fuel habit.
But if they pose a threat to Israel....what Dem or Pub prez wouldn't be ready
to kill tens of thousands of'm?

Also, the US now leads the world in oil and gas production. It is one of the main reasons for our economic recovery:

U.S. Seen as Biggest Oil Producer After Overtaking Saudi Arabia - Bloomberg

We need to keep this issue in focus moving forward. We need to increase the major current forms of energy: oil, gas and coal, and nuclear and increase renewables: solar, wind, biomass, and biofuels. This is not only to decrease our CO2 output, but for economic growth as well. We also need to develop CO2 reclaimation technologies. And we need to develop better climate models to help us understand how to do this efficiently.

And we need to stop eating meat.

Yes, in the short term we need to capture the cow farts :D

Ever been by one when it cuts loose? or when on a horse? If I ate refried beans every day, I couldn't produce enough gas in a year to match as much as they can blast in one day.

They are truly natural gas bioreactors. :D

Umm India has more cows than the US, UK and Canada combined, so not eating meat is not a solution to cow farts. Maybe eating them is.

Yeah, but if we eat the cows...then we get gas. So, next, were going to have to strap gas collectors on our butts ! :D

Most societies raise cows for milk and food. The more beef, pork, etc. we eat, the more that will be raised, and the entire process just goes round and round. And the damage this does to both the planet and us just goes on.
