Islam, the unexploded bomb

Imagine that there is an unexploded bomb or mine or some such buried in your back yard. You know you must walk carefully to avoid triggering an explosion, that the bomb might go off by itself, or that the brat next door might chuck a stone over the fence, blowing up your yard.

Most Muslims are good people, but they follow a religion that explicitly calls for the extermination of non-muslims. Fortunately almost everyone is more moral than their religion, so that is rarely a problem.

However, the chance of an explosion is always there. For example when the metaphorical brat throws a cartoon over the metaphorical fence, the result is an explosion of threats, murderous riots and killings.

How can Muslims allay the suspicion of themselves that this situation produces?

Though I fail to understand all aspects of this, it seems the situation started in Genesis 16. Was it Abrahams use of a woman who wast not his wife to have offspring what set it off? It challenges me and I want to be angry with God about it. Yet my faith and obedience prohibit that.

I spent over 7 years under Hijab and am still Muslim in many ways.

The fate of the descendants of Ishmael pains me. I am sorry.

There is a lot of hate and bigotry in both the Bible and the Qur'an. The Qur'an contains more graphic tortures that disturb me, and more Muslims act out the message in the Qur'an compared to people that act out the hate in the Bible.

I truly think God needs to write a new book. The Bible and the Qur'an makes me sick, despite most of both books is not bad. It just takes 1 or 2% of highly toxic content to make something good become deadly though.. Yes, since Muslims are more likely to practice the barbaric stuff than Jews or Christians, any nation should be very suspicious of accepting large amounts of Islamic immigrants into the free world.

One thing is, many of them have never seen a woman dress as American, European, Russian, or Australian women dress. Many have lived in nations where the veil is required and the attitude is that an unveiled woman is asking to be molested.

I don't know what the solution is.

There is a lot of hate and bigotry......

Um sunshine, what did you expect? A book of light and fluffy happy fairytales? the human race is fulled with lots of hate and bigotry, regardless of whether they are religious or secular. It's a core doctrine of basically every religion AND evolution itself, that these ways of life that we tend to repeat over and over and over again do not help us and that we need to turn to new solutions to these issues (which in a secular sense, falls into politics as we're dealing with the fate of humanity)

Also regarding the Qu'ran, by what I've read of your opinions on it, I don't get the impression you have any historical, textual and contextual knowledge of the depth and complexity of how Islam grew and splintered AND what things mean in the Qu-ran via reception and what they mean within the more timeless context it is meant to be interpreted in.

And btw, you sound like Sam Harris :joycat:

When the Quran talks about cutting off hands and feet, crucifying, mutilating, disfiguring, and pouring boiling water on people, does it really matter what context it's talking about?

Let's say it's only in the context of what will come in the next life. It is still pure hatred one way or the other.

It is essentially claiming that God is a psychopath one way or the other.

Please show where does it say in the Quran that Muslims must exterminate non-Muslims?

That is not the Truth.

What is the unexploded bomb is ignorance of the circumstances faced and facts given by Muhammad in the Quran.

We don’t have any problem with the many Muslims who live peacefully in my country.

Religion is a dynamic ever changing phenomenon. Any faith including mine that can not adapt to the modern world will eventually fall into disrepute.

You are probably aware that Islam is likely to over take Christianity as the largest religion in the world in another 50 years.

Why Muslims are the world’s fastest-growing religious group

I see religions as simply darwinistic systems acting as organisms that will fight for resources defend their kind and provide a mechanism and structure for growth, breeding and advancement of their cells ie people. They are all natural experiments. There will be conflict as societies have huge inertia and are difficult to change direction when they interact. The middle east has been a killing field for thousands of years - an example of the perpetual clash of cultures.

Newer more enlightened systems have evolved in the west such as the EU, UK, Canada, Australia, NZ etc where traditional religion is fading and rationalism succeeding. Many corner churches are now replaced with McDonalds - position, position, position!. Religious states such as Iran, Saudi, even Israel and the USA are losing the battle of retaining the dogmatic religions that they were based on and gradually evolving to newer styles. Women in Saudi are now allowed to drive cars, but only with a male or HIS permission - its a small step forward.

The internet has linked the world like nothing before it, as revolutionary as the Gutenberg Press. Much of the 19th-20th century colonialist third world poverty has evolved to middle class affluence, not through religion but trade and economics. This has happened through China and Asia, and is now happening in Africa.

It is only through study and science the real truths can be revealed, where mathematics, physics and chemistry rule instead of mythical beasts and gods. Most are moving forward toward some common place, but in every group there exist the small but loud groups of fanatic luddites that believe the old systems are still the only relevant system today and are therefore dangerous as they drift further from the main stream. The Islamic Taliban and ISIS, The Christian Brethren, The Jewish Hasidic Traditionalists, etc These are all religious "BOMBS" so not just Islam.

These social experiments are a long never ending process, but the world today actually seems to be more united and generally all heading in the same direction.
But also remember, many of the worlds biggest states need war to support their huge weapons manufacturing industries, that are an integral part of their exports and wealth. Use a bomb once and you need another one the next day.

The emergence of a new breed of alpha male, egocentric, narcissistic, national leaders USA Trump, Turkey Urdawan, China Xi Ping, Philippines Gutierrez, Russia Putin, North Korea Kim Jung Un, many of whom have basically declared themselves virtual permanent dictators is of serious concern as the lives of millions are governed by the whims of one with no transparency. South China Sea?

BTW I consider Communist, Socialist and Capitalist societies as neoreligious ideologies.

What it will end up like, deep into the future is anyone's guess.
Where will all these interactive social experiments end up?
Will these religions survive, merge or become extinct?
Is Islam the only "bomb"
Cheers

Most Muslims are good people, but they follow a religion that explicitly calls for the extermination of non-muslims

Jews follow a faith with a superiority complex.

Christians follow a faith that has justified the condemnation and continual violence in the name of Christ.

How is Islam any different?

It is because of the practice of American Christianity that I have lost my ancestral history in the states. I don't blame Islam for that.

However, the chance of an explosion is always there. For example when the metaphorical brat throws a cartoon over the metaphorical fence, the result is an explosion of threats, murderous riots and killings.

Like many people in religious transition you're still trying to figure yourself out in the religious world. What I've noticed at least in the States is a lot of American women marry Middle Eastern men and have become fixated on that individual until they get to know their culture and customs then they become entrapped in said religion/culture then they find out it isn't for them.

I truly think God needs to write a new book.

First get out of your own situation before you tell God what to do. A person with a criminal record is in no moral position to tell God anything. A drug addict or a reformed drug addict is in no position to talk about what others need to do for self-control.

Not really and I find it funny that people here on RF with their own issues have the audacity to talk about what God needs to do. First, get out of your own damn situation.
I don't believe violence should be committed in the name of God.

I would rather be a recovering drug addict who is compassionate and tolerant, than promote the persecution and torture of those who believe differently about an invisible God.

No, I do not promote the belief that Muslims should be tortured or anybody should be tortured.

I do not promote the barbaric death of adulterers and people who work on the Sabbath as the Old Testament promotes.

The majority if not all of the people who are legally publicly stoned to death in the 21st century, are stoned to death by Muslims, and that really concerns me.

Nobody should be following the Old Testament precepts and traditions.

I understand most Muslims are not for that. I'm also well aware that Muslims do not keep the Sabbath traditions. I was just pointing out some of the terrible traditions of the Old Testament.

And some of them, Muslims have been known to enforce in the 21st century.

I think it's cool that we're so enlightened in the West these days we no longer fear monger about other people's religions. Yay us!
