Took 2 days off from work to turn over my garden and put in the plants along with some other outside work.

The gardens scaled back this year.

5 Tomato plants
2 Rows Bell peppers from seed. Talked with my dad probably going to have to buy plants.
2 Rows Cucumbers from seed.
6 Zucchini plants
2 pumpkin plants

On another note my apple tree was white as snow with flowers this year so I will be getting lots of apples. My biggest problem is keeping the bugs away.

Anyone else started there gardening yet.

Soon. Too far north for just yet, although it was warm today. Apple blooms and apples aren't equivalent. So much depends on pollination. I take care of one tree that has 6 varieties, so cross pollination isn't aproblem. been experimenting with plums a lot, and planted a bunch of different plum pollinators last year, so maybe just maybe. Had about 50 plums on 2 trees last year, first year for more than one.

Garden will be a ton of kale because its so frost hardy. But also tomatoes chard, onions, beans, carrots, beets. Last year we had kale into November.

Flame

Beware
Spent monday and tuesday tilling and getting compost mixed in (thankfully there are quite a few farms nearby for free manure). Finally was able to start planting this morning.

10 sweet corn
4 zucchini plants
10 cucumber plants
4 watermelons seeds
4 honeydew seeds
10 potatoes seeds
10 cabbage seeds

Hopefully be able to get tomatoes, lettuce, and some the herbs planted tomorrow.

So far not much yet. It'll be mostly tomatoes and zucchini for me, with some beans and cucumbers and maybe some tomatillas. I have lots of onion, sage, rosemary and a few other herbs from last year, and ill get plenty of zucchini and tomato recruits from last year.

Yeah, I know but I've had the tree 10 years now. Before last year the most apples I got were 10. Last year had a good number of blossoms got my best crop yet a few dozen. I'm hoping this year is finally the year.

I love potatoes from the garden but it varies year to year for me so I gave it up.
I've tried watermelon and honeydew and they take up a lot of garden but no results. My son asks for them every year though.

I was told by an arborist that fruit tress will take a year off for no reason other than to say, "I'm the boss around here!" I hope you have an abundant crop. I look around here for people who have too many apples and sun hang-dry them. They're still going in my oatmeal every morning. We did up a lot last year.

A favorite of mine Snow Peas but I like to pick them off the vine and eat them fresh. I don't like them cooked.
I grow a lot of weeds and too. I have various methods to make sure they decorate the garden extensively.

well you have me beat

3 Tomato plants
1 row rhubarb
1 row raspberry

Bugs are not as big a problem as bunnies and deer, so I don't risk too much effort

About a dozen apple trees, but too soon for blossoms. Lots of blossoms & apples = hard winter next year, so that's a mixed blessing!

I've had varying success with potatoes. Russets and Blues seems to grow fairly fine here, I can't get Reds or Yukon Golds to grow to the same success as the others.

I have a name for deer, yard rats, my wife plants flowers and my vegetable garden are definitely a favorite of the deer. I had to put a 6 foot wire fence around my garden. I use deer spray but what I found works best is marigolds. The deer hate the smell. I put them all around my garden and in pots all around the house and yard. Last year my wife and I hardly lost anything.

Ah, yes...permaculture. The ancient tradition. I really like gardening, both the process of planting plants and the fruits they provide. Tomatoes are the hardest to grow, as the squirrels take them all.

My tomatoes are surrounded by a row of onions and garlic. Squirrels don't like them so they usually stay away.

Cats are my answer ;) We have a few Barn cats that use the garden to sunbathe and they've been keeping rodents away.

And weeds are quite frost tolerant!

Thanks I'm going to suggest that to my wife! I wonder if they would also keep a pet dog away, who dug up the flowers she just planted :(
