Jeffrey Epstein Commits Suicide at Manhattan Jail

Jeffrey Epstein, the financier indicted on sex trafficking charges last month, committed suicide at a Manhattan jail, officials said on Saturday.

Mr. Epstein hanged himself and his body was found this morning at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan at roughly 7:30.

Manhattan federal prosecutors last month charged Mr. Epstein, 66, with sex trafficking of girls as young as 14, and details of his behavior have been emerging for years.

Mr. Epstein, a financier with opulent homes, a private jet and access to elite circles, had been dogged for decades by accusations that he had paid dozens of girls for sexual acts in Florida.

It was an escape. My first thought was of being cheated, looking forward to his conviction, along with others who might have been directly or indirectly involved. I wonder if his many victims will file civil lawsuits against his estate.

No, that’s not possible. Powerful politicians are all good and have the same compass as the common folk, and have our best interests at heart. They care deeply about the common folk, they say so themselves! No one would or could have ever had him killed, it was a suicide and any other thinking would mean that someone is a moron.

It probably wasn't guilt or feeling sorry he did it, but was sorry he got caught.

Prisons do sometimes intentionally mislabel deaths by foul play as health related or suicide. Pedophiles have negative standing in the prison food chain. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if this was murder by the guards, other inmates, or both. Inmates, after all, aren't even supposed to have anything that remotely resembles a weapon and are even limited with clothing so they can't have easy access to things to strangle others or hang themselves. It's not like he had a belt or some cord to use.

Not necessarily. It's not unusual for the guards to look the other way as "prison society" works itself and the pecking order enforced, or just do it themselves. Epstein being a child molester, it's possible someone much larger than him, who was abused himself as a child, took out some rage and aggression on Epstein.

Child molesters often do not fair well in a society were a good number of their peers are violent and were themselves abused as children. Foul play that gets officially labeled as something else is also something that does sometimes happen in American prisons. And it's a very real question of how does someone on suicide watch get access to anything he could hang himself with?

Not that I really care about the guy. He was a total scumbag, so good riddance.

Still, it seems that if someone did kill him or aid his suicide, they were probably doing a big favor for some people who attended many of his kiddie sex parties. And they were likely doing a favor for Epstein himself, since he was facing the rest of his life behind bars after living in obscene luxury for decades.
