Jehovah's Witnesses continuing persecution in Russia....

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
Sorry, I didn't know the answer had to be laced with emotion. I answered the question with the facts. If I lived my life feeling overwhelmed about all the injustices in the world, I think I might have topped myself way before now.....and that is just the human suffering....don't get me started on what humans are doing to animals, which are also God's creation. My compassion is tempered with hope for a better future.....promised by the Creator of it all....what hope is your compassion tempered with? Can you count on man to fix this mess...? You better not hold your breath.

Did I shrug it off? No injustice sits well with any fair minded person. I expect that compassion will come with people who are without unfounded prejudices. There will always be people who look at injustice and see justice. It all depends on our perspective and how we view the rights of others.

JW's take their queues from God's word....and we leave the judgment up to him. He makes the rules for us and he tells us that injustice can be expected in a world where his rules don't mean much.
So at the end of it all you jw's are going to warn us unto death of Gods wrath to come. And if we dont know that your God is real, your God is going to destroy us for all of eternity. So my very life depends on knowing God is real, and then having faith in God?

I do think you are very sincere, but i gotta take a whole bunch of stuff as literal history and literal truth to be saved?

Well, that's why I would be for limiting it to the ones that provide actual charities. Not nonsense like the Salvation Army who only help the people that they agree with.
In England the Sally-Army helps anybody.......... anybody who needs help which the Sally-Army can give.

I didn't say it was all bad :) but there are times like sitting in the vet with about 10 other people then the big burly vet comes out, yells CUDDLES and I stand up.
Yeah, but holding your little Cuddles, everybody can see another side to the big bloke standing before them.
Anyway, if that vet called out 'Geronimo, or Hell-Raiser' and you stodd up with Cuddles, you' just look a bit pretentious..... :p

I was hidden in plain sight but I'm now known around town as the old fat bloke with the fluffy white dog or the weirdo who sits by the river all day with the big camera or the bloke married to the American woman.
Ah ha! Canon or Nikon? Big lens......... if it's a 2.8 then you're probably a very serious nature photographer, is my guess.

I wouldn't mind visiting a few JW or LDS churches and discuss important stuff like line dancing or duel carburettors or something else I don't understand but that would just be for my own sense of payback, I wouldn't want to annoy average people enjoying their weekend.
Duel carbs? You might, just might find a JW who would want to discuss dual-carbs with you, but most JWs that I know have moved out of the dark-ages and drive motors which fuel injection systems........ more power, better economy.
Dual-carbs......... OMG......,.. a Neanderthal..... :D

Again, I suggest to you that if a caller wanting to introduce a policy, religion or product could be the destruction of your weekend, when all you had to answer to them was 'No mate!' then you're not getting enough joys out of life. Straight up....... honest...... :)

Which is why I joined this thread in the first place, there is good and evil in all groups of people.
Which is why I'll open my door to anybody........ there just isn't any caller who could spoil my day by calling. What they do after that is another matter....... with a villain the responses would change very quickly.

I really like the cut of your jib mate. Straight as an arrow. I so wish more people were like you. We don't have to agree but it's not a reason to dislike a person.

The camera is a Nikon but the lens is a 2nd hand Tamron 150-600mm F5/6.3. Which is why I'm home right now, it's cloudy so not enough light for my gear.

Again, I suggest to you that if a caller wanting to introduce a policy, religion or product could be the destruction of your weekend, when all you had to answer to them was 'No mate!' then you're not getting enough joys out of life. Straight up....... honest...... :)

Which would be fine if they left after "no mate" but they always want to tell me 1 more thing.

We probably consider what constitutes a villain differently. Someone trying to lure others to their clan with promises of eternal paradise and/or threats of a imminent apocalypse is a villain in my mind.

It is nasty, for sure, what churches do. True, the RCs dont sell indulgences any more, at least not directly. They still
pass them out, and you still have to pay. (Bribe)
Why don't you throw away your great big brush, and opt for spray painting? It's faster, with much greater coverage.

You goddies continue to support such nastiness, with churches preying esp on elderly widows.
Oh........ you surely could have fitted helpless babies into that scenario......... very weak!

Do you spend much time helping elderly widows? ...... shopping for them? ......... visiting and making them a meal or drink? Do you have an 'aid-call' system that they can use when in difficulties?

Well.......... do you?

Well pardonez - moi for being so insensitive as to mention it.
Well, you're insensitive enough to brand any Deist or Theist a 'goddy'!!!!!

But I like reading your posts.......... they're just such a laugh. Or rather, such a joke.

You are a threat to children who need blood transfusions,
The above was sent to a JW.

Now, if you would please show any list of deaths in a recent period of time, caused by JWs who refuse blood transfusions, I promise to produce a list for a similar period of time of deaths caused by blood transfusions.
OK?
....... I'll wait patiently....... :)

........kids who are sexually assaulted by members of your flock, and families who are torn apart by shunning,
We could choose mostly any group of people and discover sexual assaults on kids, or bust up families...... even amongst civil engineers in any country. True?

but you aren’t a threat to governments.
Fair enough.

Did the civil engineers cover up the crimes of their fellow civil engineers? Did it take a Royal Commission to make the civil engineers provide information on 1,500 child sexual assaults they had knowledge of? Did civil engineers encourage people not to report crimes against their children because it might harm the name of civil engineers? Only if yes is the answer to those questions can you compare the two groups.

Yep....... In good light a 600mm is a brilliant piece of kit.
About ten years ago my wife and I would go on nature-photography trips, to salt-marshes and reserves. We only used Fuji 5600s (optical x10 zooms, 5mega-pix) with Raynox 2.2 lenses. We longed for better cameras with higher pixel counts. As time went by we spent more money on better gear, but my wife insisted on keeping her old 5600.

This very week I bought a Fuji picture-card, dug that 5600 camera and its lens out of the roof, and am going back to simple wildlife photography........ those were the fastest sharpest little cameras we ever used......... and we could dare to take them into the soggiest nastiest places for those supper-pics. :)

Which would be fine if they left after "no mate" but they always want to tell me 1 more thing.
Yesterday........ just yesterday a bloke called from 'S---style home improvements'. That's exactly what he did....... the 'I won't keep you a moment..... I'm from... Have you ever thought of ....' intro. I explained that all our windows and doors were sorted out. He then asked one-more-thing...... 'Have you ever though of a sun-lounge extension?'. I explained 'Yes mate, and no mate........ but 'good luck' up and down the road'.

Now what do you think I should have done? I could have thrown an hysterical fit, or raged at him, or tried to chase him up our drive.......... but why? Even if I had got out of the shower and had been standing there in damp towel dripping water all over the porch, would such an experience have been life-changing? You Ozzies are tougher than to get ruffled feathers over a caller, surely?

We probably consider what constitutes a villain differently. Someone trying to lure others to their clan with promises of eternal paradise and/or threats of a imminent apocalypse is a villain in my mind.
No.... Honestly, No.
A nasty B who is calling on a weekday afternoon (OAPs and mothers alone at home) with a view to seeing if they can be robbed, is a villain.
A person who just joined the 'Way to Heaven Wanderers' and who is mad about sharing their discovery and wants to give it (like a huge diamond) for free to others is not a villain, or any where near to one.
You can just tell 'em 'No Mate' and if they get pushy beyond that then you're free to add whatever communications you please....... but they're not even hate-able, surely?

We've got far too many corrupted folks high up in boardrooms and government offices to spend any of our time grouching about religious callers.

On No! You're not a Grouchy-Oz are are you? :p

In what way do they "help"? Because even in the UK, the Salvation Army isn't free from controversy, including referring LGBT people to conversion therapy, refusing benefits for LGBT workers spouses, and opposing the repeal of laws in the UK that oppressed homosexuals. They can say all they like, but it's what they do that speaks louder. All throughout their existence, they give with one hand, and take with the other.

The generic answer to the question of... what is the best camera?, is... the one you have with you.

My gear isn't the best but being in the right spot at the right time is more important than $15,000 lenses. I've posted some of my pics in this thread https://www.religiousforums.com/threads/bird-obsession.209232/

What you should do is up to you. I thank them and say I'm not interested twice, if that doesn't work I walk away and leave them to continue with a yapping Maltese.

Depends on your view I guess. Promising people paradise if they believe what you believe or eternal torture if you don't is at the upper scale of villain in my opinion.

So at the end of it all you jw's are going to warn us unto death of Gods wrath to come. And if we dont know that your God is real, your God is going to destroy us for all of eternity. So my very life depends on knowing God is real, and then having faith in God?

Wow, it sounds horrible when you say it like that! :( But what do you think we are getting "saved" from?

Our message isn't all bad news....there is something wonderful about the future for those who are sick of the wickedness of this world and long for a better life.
We either love this world and all that it stands for....or we hate it. (I am not referring to the planet, but to the corrupt human systems that rule mankind.)

In a nutshell, our message is that this world has to go.....God never intended that we should live like this. The suffering and injustice is more than most people can cope with, but it was never intended to be permanent. It was a lesson in self-determination and where that ultimately leads us. We have proven beyond all shadow of doubt that we cannot rule ourselves successfully without God.

The good news is that, like it was in Noah's time, God has told us how to survive the end of this world system. This is God's earth to give to whomever he pleases. He set the standard for human behavior and the criteria for citizenship in the new world to come. These will form a new world society of people who have come to know the true God, appreciate what he is offering and are willing to join in offering the same invitation to others....like Noah did.

"And the spirit and the bride keep on saying, “Come!” and let anyone hearing say, “Come!” and let anyone thirsting come; let anyone who wishes take life’s water free." (Revelation 22:17)

Those who don't value their life as a gift from God, but who want to live it with no regard for the rules he set, will simply not be granted citizenship...(no country will accept people like that)....and because there is nowhere else to go, they will simply be eliminated from existence. No one will be forced to live a life that they don't want, or to serve a God they don't love. He wants us to choose him because we love him and what he has made for us to enjoy on this earth, not because we have no choice or are afraid of him.

I do think you are very sincere, but i gotta take a whole bunch of stuff as literal history and literal truth to be saved?

Well all you have to do is trust in the one who made us. He knows what is best for all of his children, but he will not force himself on anyone. We either want what he is offering...or we don't. We choose either life or death by our thinking and actions now, because they are the only choices we have.

I believe that those who don't want to serve God really don't know him or don't want to know him.....they only know "of" him and depending upon who supplied their information, they will either appreciate his creation as a gift, or they will find fault and a thousand reasons to reject him. That is the basic difference that God is looking for.

I don’t know of any group of civil engineers who protect pedophiles by refusing to act on abuse allegations unless the crime was witnessed by two people. Do you?

Nah. the basic difference, or divide is not at all
where you think it is.

See, we understand that a tight knit cult will have
everyone thinking alike. People were not born terrorists, or scientologists, nazis or commies.
Orr JWs.

But, given a bit of time and powerful group dynamics,
people can be gotten to believe anything, and
act in heroic or depraved ways.

The whole Noahs ark thing is so ridiculous, it
is a wonderful example of what people can be
made to believe, fight nor, no matter how patently
wrong it is.

It just completely kills any possible credibility
your beliefs have.

So yaah basic difference. Its like the difference
between a fantasy world, and a real one.
