Jesus Naked on the Cross

How was Jesus dressed when he was crucified, and does it make any difference?

In another thread roger1440 posted a link to a site that addressed the contention that Jesus was naked when he was crucified. Failing to get the link to work, I Googled "god-naked-because-jesus-was-crucified-naked/," part of the link's address, and found there's a bit of dispute about whether or not Jesus was naked on the cross.

I've never heard of the dispute before, but considering the number of web sits that address the issue I found it interesting that evidently quite a few Christians do care about it.

My question is: Do you think Jesus was naked on the cross when he was crucified, and does it make any difference to you?

Why?

That it does matter to some folk is evidenced by this:

"This Strange Church Worships In The Nude ‘Because Jesus Was Crucified Naked’ Signs of the end time

In this world, weird things happen every day but you will be shocked with the discovery of this church in Virginia, United States of America, called White Tail Chapel, which worships in the nude ‘because the founder, Pastor Allen Parker says Jesus Christ was crucified naked,’ and its slogan is ‘Bare More Than Your Naked Soul.’"

Since utter humiliation was part of the point to crucifixion I expect that He probably was stripped naked. I never thought about it before.

According to Huffingtonpost.com, the church is ‘located on the grounds of the White Tail Resort in Ivor, Virginia, and focuses on casting off material concerns, including clothes.

White Tail Resort describes itself as a Family Nudist Community, where visitors can enjoy all manner of activities, including spiritual worship, completely naked.
There are quite a few such places.
Doug and I used to belong to a naturist resort that was predominantly Christian. They held a nondenominational services every Sunday.

Here's from Wikipedia's article on crucifixion:

While a crucifixion was an execution, it was also a humiliation, by making the condemned as vulnerable as possible. Although artists have traditionally depicted the figure on a cross with a loin cloth or a covering of the genitals, the person being crucified was usually stripped naked.

Makes sense.
The humiliation sounds reasonable as does the Christian cover up. A little fibbing now and then can't be that bad, can it?

It is my understanding that historically, the Romans crucified the convicted in the nude. Thus, it stands to reason that all crucifixions were conducted with the subject nude.

Many theists equate nudity with sex and immorality. This is a false equation. Most nudists aren't nude so that they can get an eyefull and a thrill.

So I can see why some Christians would be shocked about a "nude church"; yet other Christians may see this as a thing of beauty. Why should Christians shame the body that supposedly God created? "Do not call anything I have made unclean".

Just a couple thoughts is all.

This is mockery to Christianity!

Let's suppose he was naked , because they ripped his clothes, not because he want. (in Christianity view)

And reasonable thoughts at that.

You say "This is mockery to Christianity!" and now dismiss explaining your remark with "whatever." After this I'll make sure not to take anything you say seriously.

Is that hard to understand ?
It's Christainity beliefs lol

I won't go into it, but I think for various reasons Rome wanted to break the spirits of the people in the region.
I think that this is a much bigger deal in understanding Jesus' ministry than Christians prefer to consider.
Jesus was executed as a violent antiRoman seditionist. I think He was, and the reason Paul invented a new religion is because the Apostles weren't about to tell him what Jesus' real message was. He was known as a Roman operative killing people like them.

I do stuff
If it was common to crucify the condemned naked it probably isn't mentioned in the Gospels because it would have been common knowledge at the time. It would have served no purpose to mention something everyone already knew.

No, this is mockery to Christianity.

But if anyone wants to do research of what Jesus was wearing on the cross I recommend starting here.
(in Christian view)
They ripped his clothes, that's by force, it's not intentional act.

that's make huge different.

So the preist should also put on cross and being crucified as Jesus (pbuh) too

that "imitation" is should be perfect.

I don't know if it's a mockery to Christianity, but it's certainly one heck of an interactive crucifixion. There are even 12 different Jesus Dress Up theme options in the column at the left. Normal Bob, creator of the website, has been one busy fella.

I wasn't there, so I don't know whether he was naked or covered. It's not an issue to me, either way.

Wonder if the worshipping nudists get cold. Always feels drafty in church, to me.

I've no judgement for them, but, can't personally reconcile why it would be necessary when Christ took all that upon Him so that we wouldn't really have to.
