Job Hunting

In May I should graduate with a Math degree and Economics minor, so I figure I should start a job hunt right about now...

I was wondering if you guys had any helpful tips for job hunting? I am not sure if I want a job in math or to go onto grad school, so I want to look at my options... Any ideas where a good place to go to find jobs would be?

Try getting a copy of John Malloy's Live For Success, and reading the chapters on job hunting. Very much worth it.

When you turn an app in, keep bugging them for a job. It may not get you the job, but it will let whoever know you really want the job. Another tip, keep your ears open for someone who is close in your social circle who might know someone who knows someone who can put in a good word for you and help you get a job.

McDonalds is a sure thing. ........so is Walmart..........however you may need to learn spanish to get up the ladder so to speak. Wait.....try the US Postal Service. The Army is hiring too.

I would rather live on the streets than work at McDonalds again. I am fully convienced that when God sends people to hell, he sends them to work at a McDonalds for all eternity.

Once when I wanted to move to a different town.
I worked up a very good application letter and sent it to every company in a twenty mile radius of my intended home. I had them printed on quality letter paper and signed them all. They were addressed to the managing director by name.

I only had two replies, one from a local entrepreneure and one from a company he actually financed. Needless to say they made a job for me. as chief photographer.

For about twenty hours work I had a new job.

If you don't try your luck you don't win.

Try a good job portal. Most companies post openings their. Sending them letters will not help since some might not have openings and will just ignore your letter.

Prepare a good resume and a cover letter and search the job portals for the kind of job and the kind of place you are interested to work in and post your resumes to those companies. Your chances of sucess will improve and also register your resume on some job portal that way head hunters will be able to find you and offer you jobs.

I have registered in quite a few job portals a year back to get a job which i did in a week and even now i keep geting offers from various companies from all over the world. My inbox is littered with job offer emails.

And always target big companies, the chances of your growth are better in a big oraganizatons than a smaller one though the smaller one might be much easier to work in. Give good attention to your resume, do not make grave errors in them cause you will be judged by the way you present yourself rather than the knowledge you posses.

I am a bussiness and commerce grad and did my Phd in Human Resource and Business Taxation. I also have a Diploma in Web Programming, PHP, MySql and .ASP. But nobody cares about that as long as i do not present myself good.

really it just comes down to alot of time and energy, even though w/ a degree like that i'm sure you won't have trouble marketing yourself to employers.
