1) Responding to the Request for More Troops: America Says NO!
Tomorrow evening (actually today), President Bush is expected to give his "new direction in Iraq" speech. Senators who met with him yesterday say he plans on increasing the number of men and women sent to Iraq by 20,000. We have to make it clear that Americans do NOT want more troops in Iraq, and we have to act fast!
Members of the Win Without War Coalition are working to create a strong, rapid response to the President's request. On Thursday, January 11th, people will rally across the nation with this simple message: "NO!" To find a rally in your areaor sign-up to host onevisit our action site at http://www.AmericaSaysNo.org.
Here's how it works:
The Americans Say NO! events will be simple, and easy to host. We'll all converge on the evening after the President's speech with some ready-made signs and petitions carrying our message. You can read out the names of the service members from your state who have already died in Iraq, or simply hold a silent vigil. Then, pass the petition around and be sure to take a digital photo of your event to add to an online collection.
Volunteer to lead an event by visiting http://www.AmericaSaysNo.org/lead. We've got lots of information to get you started, and more is on the way. Hosting these events is almost as simple as 1, 2, 3:
A) Pick a time and location for the event.
B) Download a host kit full of tools and ideas to make your event easy and successful. http://www.AmericaSaysNo.org
C) Let your friends and neighbors know about the event. Point them to the website http://www.truemajorityaction.org/AmericaSaysNo so they can RSVP. D) Capture your community saying NO! to the President by bringing a digital camera and taking a picture of your community holding the "NO!" signs, downloadable on the website, and then post your picture on the website! You can also take a video and send a 30-second message to your Member of Congress via YouTube, instructions also provided on the website, to show your opposition!
2) March on Washington against the War, Saturday, January 27
The Win Without War Coalition has endorsed the March on Washington against the war happening in Washington, DC, on Saturday, January 27. Those interested are encouraged to participate in the March, local events in your area, and lobbying activities the following week. Check the website for events listed by zip code.
