Hi everyone! I recently visited this form to get information on a YouTube "Guru" and found the discussion very good and informative. Unfortunately there are too many people setting themselves up as spiritual leaders for the purpose of exploiting sincere seekers, particularly young people. One must be very careful. My background is Christian and Catholic, but for a very long time I have felt much closer to Hinduism and presently I follow the teachings of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi and particularly like the book "Be as You Are" by David Godman. I also had a a couple of brief associations with the Hare Krishna movement in the 1970s and early 1980s and enjoy singing kirtan mantras. Also very interested in politics and hope to participate in some discussions on current events. I am really happy to have found a forum where serious discussion of serious subjects is taking place.

Welcome. You'll fit right in. We have a good population of Hindus here and every other person talks about politics. There's not a day goes by without some Trump mixed with the bunch. I haven't came across anyone here (been here a good while :( ) who act like teachers here. There is a seeker's forum to talk with peers in similar shoes as you. But you'll meet a lot of evangelize who kinda act like them. They don't hurt, but....

Welcome to RF.

Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi and particularly like the book "Be as You Are" by David Godman.

To me, Ramana Maharshi is someone I learned about in the past couple of years. I just recently watched a video of his life with David Godman as one of the primary narrators. He struck me as one who reached the goal of life and like the sun, warmed the hearts of those who came in contact with him.

Can you have a word with the pigeons that sit on my TV aerial all the time - upsets the quality so much it drives me mad (der than usual)! Anyway, welcome to the pleasure dome. :D
