Kansas Cops Shut Down Newspaper For Reporting

Excerpted...
MARION — In an unprecedented raid Friday, local law enforcement seized computers, cellphones and reporting materials from the Marion County Record office, the newspaper’s reporters, and the publisher’s home.

Eric Meyer, owner and publisher of the newspaper, said police were motivated by a confidential source who leaked sensitive documents to the newspaper, and the message was clear: “Mind your own business or we’re going to step on you.”

The city’s entire five-officer police force and two sheriff’s deputies took “everything we have,” Meyer said, and it wasn’t clear how the newspaper staff would take the weekly publication to press Tuesday night.

The raid followed news stories about a restaurant owner who kicked reporters out of a meeting last week with U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner, and revelations about the restaurant owner’s lack of a driver’s license and conviction for drunken driving.

What are they going to claim? That it was no a "real newspaper"? It appears to have been in business for quite some time. I bet that there are attorneys banging on the publishers door begging to take this case. I smell lawsuit and probable prosecution.

It's now established law that one needn't be a "real"
journalist (in the eyes of government) to have the
right to record events, eg, cops doing what they do.
Similarly, the internet has shown that individuals are
important (often more so) to investigate & publish
news, eg, Matt Drudge.

"Redress" is the crucial power that civilians have.

Oh boy. Not looking good. Elder abuse and possibly felony murder charges could not arise.

When cops show up, innocent people often die.

In the news, cops aren't talking about their acting like Nazis.

Fortunately, government will investigate government.

And that is just the beginning. The KBI is involved. You have to know that the FBI is going to be next.

This is such an open and shut case to me that there is no doubt that we will see some cops going to jail.

Cops are now actually defending their
Gestapo style raid on the newspaper.
They won't talk to news organizations,
but they'll post it on facebook.

Cops just don't get it , do they.
Do wrong, & when caught, dig that hole deeper.

Of course. What other news source would you use. These cops are pure amateurs.

KS governor takes a strong stance on continuing to ask questions.
Such bravery!
What can I say. She is a politician in a very pro-cop state. She advocates more investigation which is fine with me. She could have gone with her fan base. A Trumpian reaction would be to cheer one the police for this action. At least she did not do that.
