I also know another woman who is a PhD computer engineer......oh wait.... but she from China too... so it may not apply...

as to Ivy league schools, they were not co-ed until 1969 and then it was only Princeton and Yale.

I'm not surprised by the sexist attitude described in the OP. I've seen it manifest among some conservatives I either know in real life or have encountered online. My father-in-law was like that towards me when my husband and I were first married. I have butted heads with my father-in-law a few times over the years, but he's mellowed in his old age or else he's given up trying to tame me.

True story... my husband and I went to purchase a previously-owned Pontiac Montana minivan. So, my husband found two of these vans in the same car dealership. One was gold, and the other was silver. My previous minivan was a silver Honda Odyssey, so I wanted the gold Montana. My husband told the salesman that I wanted the gold van. The salesman looked irritated, and he told my husband (with me standing there), "Tell your wife she wants the silver van!" My husband laughed at him and said, "You tell my wife that!" Needless to say, this male chauvinistic salesman apparently lost his nerve when he looked over at me and saw the look on my face. I guess he was smart enough to realize that it would be unwise for him to cross a redhead. I'd have walked away from buying this gold Montana if I hadn't wanted it so much. And to add insult to injury to this sexist salesman, my husband found a deal online that was $3,000 less than the listed price of the van. The salesman had to honor the deal because of the car dealership's promise to match prices. I felt completely vindicated when my husband told him about the lower price. I'll never forget the look on his face.

I had an old man snap at me once, and he said, "I don't want no woman opening the door for me!" when I opened the door for him at a local convenience store. Also, my husband and I were visiting my in-laws (not long after we were married) and my mother-in-law tried to lecture me about a good wife serving her husband. We were watching a movie, and my husband said he was thirsty, and he wanted something to drink. Before he had the chance to ask me if I wanted a drink too, his disgruntled mother interrupts him and says to me, "Your husband said he wants something to drink!" Well, I looked at her and defiantly said, "He has two feet! He's capable of getting himself something to drink on his own." She and my father-in-law nearly fell out of their chairs. Neither one of them could believe that I talked back to them like that, and that I didn't immediately jump up to get my husband something to drink. They weren't happy with me at all. Now, I would have gladly obliged my husband if he had asked me, but he didn't. He was about to ask me if I was thirsty and if I needed a drink too, since he was already planning to get something to drink.

Probably due to the erosion of the nuclear family and the tragic rise of latchkey children.

It's not that woman can't do the job, but those women that put careers above family as a priority.

At least until the children grow up they need at least one parent to properly rear and direct them ideally.

It's been a basis for stability in the past that now has consequences as both parents largely need to work in today's society leaving kids to essentially fend for themselves.

I think he had it backwards and just erroneously or intentionally blamed the women instead of the changes that had forced both parents to work for support that destroyed a classic family structure.

A classic scapegoat in other words.
